My bunny, Binki, has had a flopped ear for about 3-4 months. Problem is, Binki is not a lop. He is a up eared pet quality Netherland Dwarf and has been for 3 1/2 years now. Awhile ago Binki had some major random non contagous infection that almost killed him. Fortunately he made it through with some intensive care. I think his ear might have been down since then. I believe the infection was located in his inner ear?? Could this infection have damaged his ear muscles? If I put it back up, the ear stays until he moves, then it slowly flops down. He can also pull it flat on his back by himself.
I have no problem with his floppy ear, but I’m just curious on how it happened.

I would love to post pics, but they are too big to post. On one side he looks pure Holland Lop and the other side looks like a Netherlands Dwarf with huge ears

Likely tore a muscle or tendon. It happened to a dog of mine who had two ears up. She broke a tendon in one of her ears as a pup so it became a flop ear

It could be nerve-damage brought on by the ear-infection.

One of my buns once got a floppy ear after a fight, but it went up again after a week or so.

Brambles ears lopped at about two years old! To be fair he did always have helicopter ears but they never came all the way down at the same time then all of a sudden one day I looked at him and he looked just like a lop eared bun. He can still bring them back up and tends to sit with one up one down most of the time but, especially when he gets sleepy he lops both. I have no idea how or why it happened, he wasn’t ill or anything before hand, it just happened one day. Vet says he is absolutely fine and he definitely doesn’t seem bothered by it at all. He is super cute actually with his full range ear movement

I’m leaning toward nerve damage as well. Does he have any facial paralysis?
