Bunny with e-collar and poo attached to his behind

My bunny has a wound near his ear so i took him to the vet. She gave me an ointment called Omnimatrix and i started applying it today, so far so good, my bunny let me put it. However, the vet put an E-collar on him because he is trying to scratch it like crazy and i’m feeling a little sorry for him. The problem is, with the E-collar on and the scare of going to the vet (he hates it) i think he pooped himself and can’t clean so there’s a lot of poo on his behind, i already cleaned most of it but there’s still a bit and i’m worried it’ll infect or something because he had a small wound on one of his testicles and it had pus on it (the vet already disinfected it), so my question is, should i remove the E-collar ? I’m afraid that if i remove it he will open the wound again and it’ll become worse, and i wanted to know how i could clean his behind without him running away and hurting him. But if he stays with the e-collar on it’ll only be for a couple more days, the wound isn’t that big, my biggest concern is his testicle becoming infected, please help!

Its possibly his cecal poop (the poop they’re meant to eat) that has gotten stuck. He wouldn’t be able to reach them with the collar on.

What is the collar made out of? Is it rigid or soft? Can you trim the outer rim back a little so he can reach his cecals?
Or could you put the collar on the reverse way without hindering movement to much??
He’d probably like that better for vision but it might make it tricky to hop around.

That’s tough! I would leave the collar on-the bigger risk in my opinion is him bothering his testicle and his ear, rather than some poop on his bum. But try to keep a close eye, and maybe give the vet a call to see what they think too.

The poop is cecals. Bunnies need to double digest their food, so everything goes through twice. The stuff that has only been through once is cecals. The messiness is only part of the issue with him not being able to take care of his cecals b/c of the collar, he also isn’t fully digesting and getting all the nutrients from his food when he can’t reach his cecals.

I would take the collar off and try to find another strategy to prevent scratching.

I kept an eye on him yesterday and today and he pooped cecals and ate it so i was relieved. The wound near his ear looks better and he’s all clean near his privates. I’m hoping he can have the e-collar removed in maybe two days! He seems to be trying to scratch the wound less. He is looking much more like himself today, thank you all for you advices!
