Hello, all! I have three small young bunnies (under a year) who are siblings. Last week the smallest bun, Prince Moon, dislocated his leg and is in a splint. I have had to separate him from his brother and sister as they were “helpfully” trying to chew it off for him. I have them housed in a very large dog crate and was able to keep them all in the crate but separated Prince Moon via a divider that came with the crate.
It seemed to be working well but today I discovered that Pippen, Prince Moon’s brother, has a sudden, large bald spot on his back. The skin is not irritated. The other two buns do not have bald spots. The sister, Miss Ninja, is the head bunny and does a lot of grooming. I wonder if she is over-grooming Pippen due to being stressed out about not being able to be with Prince Moon?
It seems the wrong season for a molt.
I’m wondering if I should move Prince Moon to a different room until his splint comes off (two days from now) or if that would just stress them out even more. The trio is all deeply bonded and they really love each other.
Thoughts? Is over-grooming something that even happens? I’ve fostered nearly 20 rabbits before adopting these three and have never encountered this issue.
