Bunny “warts”?

Hi All,

Luna has a white bump on her nose. The exotics vet saw it when I brought Honey in for her stasis follow-up and said he wasn’t sure but it definitely not an abscess and probably just some sort of viral-wart-type thing. He said we’d keep an eye on it. We talked about him biopsying it during their spay (which was yesterday), but he wasn’t able to intubate her and her breathing became labored so he didn’t want to keep her under to do the biopsy.I’ll feel much better if someone says, “yes, my bunny had a normal wart that went away and wasn’t syphilis/myxi/etc.”  For the record, this is the only spot on her and it’s been there about a month now. It *may* be slightly bigger than it was a couple of weeks ago (I say no, but my husband says yes). She doesn’t have any crusty spots or hairless spots.

This one doesn’t show the spot well but it’s so cute I wanted to post it anyway. And just to be fair, here’s one of Honey (she wouldn’t stay still for a picture, which is pretty good considering she was spayed yesterday, right?):

Honestly, my bunnies have never had any major health issue including this, so i’m not sure what it is. If the bump isn’t getting bigger (at all), isn’t irritated, bald, or hurting her, then I wouldn’t be extremely worried.

I would go to the vet and see what it is.

I can’t really see anything in the pictures. Rabbits can get papillomas, which are typically harmless. It’s caused by a virus that can remain inactive for long periods of time.

Is it that spot in middle of her nose? Because that really is quite white! I was expecting more a flesh coloured growth.

I was thinking papilloma like LBJ mentioned also. Sometimes they self resolve I think.
If syphilis, that’s pretty easy to treat. Myxi though is another story. Are you in a region known for myxi outbreaks? Usually with myx, you’d have a pretty sick bunny on your hands & you’d see it progressing. But I think there are variations of that virus that are less severe. Or if a vaccinated rabbit still contracts myxi, it might not be as severe infection.
