Bunny wants to sleep in my room…

I honestly do not mind having her sleep in my room, but I am curious if yall have a separate sleeping area if you let your buns sleep in your room?  Or do you just have a “dog bed” type thing? She is very well potty trained.

 

She is cracking me up by sneaking up to my room now and hiding under the bed.  <3  Such a sweet girl!

 

p.s my room is pretty much bunny proofed, my main area of concern was co sleeping with buns.  Do yall do it?  Do you worry that they will get stepped on in the middle of the night if you have to go potty? 

 

Is this a stupid idea?  Should I just continue to let her free roam when I am home and put her to bed in her large bunny house when its “bedtime”?

I used to let Powder sleep under the bed / on the bed / have free run of my room at night. He didn’t chew stuff, was potty trained and the room was bunny proofed enough. He never did anything bad (well, except one night he kicked me in the face cause he stretched out and flopped beside my pillow). Only reason I don’t anymore is because Stickers is bonded to him now and she’s a destructive little brat that would eat anything her teeth could touch and pee over it all afterwards. lol

Tell me about it! Merlin and Luna have their own bunny room filled with toys, food and a little cosy nook with blankets and a hide. Do they like it? Nope! They want to be in mummy and daddys room XD They sleep under our bed at night, I don’t think theres any harm. They are social animals and like to be near their people!

My big concern about overnight free range is lack of quick access to the bunny in case of emergency. If something happened (gas leak, fire, natural disaster, etc), you would have a limited amount of time to corral the bunny into her carrier and take her to safety. I’ve always felt more secure knowing that my bun is contained at night and could be quickly retrieved.

Even if this wasn’t an issue for me, I don’t like having animals in the bedroom at all. I tend to have sinus issues so I prefer the bedroom to be a (relatively) fur-free zone. Does fur get in there? Of course, but having limited bedroom access helps to keep it down. We do have an air purifier that we run in the bedroom 24/7 too. But really, it’s to each their own…

My boy is free range and sleeps wherever he likes, ha ha ha! And it is always in MY room, usually under my bed or behind the curtain next to the glass door. ‘My’ only complaint is – what he does while I am asleep??? I have woken to holes chewed not only in my comforter, but the clothing I am actually sleeping in! And I have woken a few times to everything on my bedside table being on the floor in the morning. Good grief! ha ha ha….

But I also get what Beka is saying….. my whole house is covered in bunny FLUFFFFFF! And it’s horrible! But I learned to accept it as part of bunny ownership (along with my chewed bed, gggrrrrrr!). I wake ‘every’ morning blowing my nose after sneezing.
But I think that’s just up to the individual – my 3 (used to be 4) small dog’s sleep with us as well. Either you are that way inclined or not.

One thing that always concerns me is Beka’s comment about “lack of quick access to the bunny in case of emergency”. This does worry me (!!!) as Henry doesn’t come when called like the dog’s. But I (only ‘me’ with ‘my’ bunny and ‘my’ situation) am confident that Henry would be easily found and easily caught if we had an emergency, and our only emergency would be fire and we have smoke alarms throughout our home. I wouldn’t hesitate to throw him in a pillow case cause his carrier is set up as his toilet in the dining room not our bedroom, and we have doors and windows (we barely have walls, lol!) on every external wall of our house. So yes, please keep or have an emergency plan in mind regardless of what you chose to do.

As far as walking into him while getting up through the night ??? I can’t tell you the amount of times I have walked into Henry! I swear it scares me more than him! Lol! But it hasn’t happened for ages – maybe we both got used to it??? He he he he……

My two are free range in their own room 24/7, so “quick access” would be an issue if I didn’t know I could get them wherever they are. We had a gas leak and they were really easy to get a hold of, even though they kinda helped alert me to it (they got very stressed and my bird was screaming about it before I even noticed the smell myself). But, my two are used to their carrier (I leave it in their room as a play house) and getting them to come to me is very easy, they actually seek me out if they are scared. If your buns are hard to handle, or tend to run from you in an emergency, then secure areas might be better.

You know Stickerbunny, when we first moved into this house years ago, they had a gas cook top and I swear I could smell it??? I got it tested and all was good, but again I could still smell the gas??? I had it removed! And it took me months of nagging the company to remove the gas bottles (attached to the back of the house wall). I know gas is the way to go – but I sleep better every night knowing my home is gas free.

PS – And I have solar panels to supplement my electric stove top, and everything else electric in my home. For some reason I am terrified of gas?

I think if I did end up letting her stay over in my room, it would be in a specific area, in case of an emergency!
