im writing this going on very little sleep so please bare with any mistakes i make

(some pre information to help) : i adopted her about 3 weeks ago after she had been at the shelter for 9 months. they estimate her age to be 2 years and 10 months. she is the first bunny ive ever owned. ive had previous experience with rats and hamsters. and she is spayed.

she wont stop chewing at her litter box and trying to move it around. i have it secured to the cage as she moved it around so much before and wouldn’t use it. around the 1st week of having her she started to thump in her cage at night so i gave her more time to hop around my room during the day to wear down her energy and it worked! until recently, when shes rest nibbling and making a huge racket during all hours of the night. i fill up the hay feeder, make sure she has fresh water, give her fresh veggies, and while she runs around my room give her pellets in a rolling ball. she just wont stop.

i feel really hopeless. the only thing keeping me awake is the pool being open now so i can get an early swim to wake me up

        please help

I don’t quite get what it is that she is doing at night right now. Is she still nibbling her litter box and pulling/pushing it?

If so, does she have anything to chew besides hay in the cage, and how big is the cage? Bunnies just like chewing things, it’s what they do. If you give them something made out of carton (carton boxes are favourites here), they may chew on that instead. Or things like willow balls, tunnels, anything chewable may work. Or maybe her cage is too small. Try attaching (another) pen to it during the night and make sure there is plenty to destroy for her.

Is she in your bedroom? If so, possibly consider moving her to the kitchen or living room so she can go all out without bothering you? Bunnies sleep mostly during the day and are most active during mornings and evenings. I know mine have have epic house parties when I’m asleep.

she’s currently nibbling and pulling on her litter box.

besides hay i have several wood treats that she used to nibble on before her litter box, i give her a tightly filled toilet roll of hay to keep her busy she also likes to chew on the roll, and i have newspaper in her cage which she love to tear apart. I’ll try out some carton boxes as you suggested

she is in my bedroom but i dont have any other place to put her. i have two dogs. both of which i dont crate at night. the only safe spot for me to keep her in without heavy supervision is my room

i’ll keep updated if anything seems to work well

Sometimes over-chewing things can be an indication of a teeth issue.

Other than that, some bunnies have a very strong preference on where things should be in their cages. So your bunny may just dislike having the litter box in that particular area which is why she’s trying to move it. Bunnies normally choose a favourite spot to pee and poop, so try observing where that spot is then put the litter box there

How big is her cage? Does she have space to hop and run around it, or is it one of those pet shop cages? She may well be frustrated by a lack of space. Could you add an x pen to the front of her cage to give her more space? Or if she’s litter trained, you could even look into bunny proofing your room and making her free range in it (which of course isn’t possible for everyone!)

                  She is also settling in.
I’ve been through this, it is yes a nightmare.
Make sure she has enough food overnight- I mean more than just hay
mine only stopped waking me up regularly when I gave them fibafirst sticks just before I turned in.
This means that they have something to chew on and feed on through the night it’s amazing how much they get through.
Keep them out as much as poss…
                  Good luck
