When my netherland dwarf was still in his store bought pet cage, he would only ever pee in his litter tray? But since I’ve built him his own large corner (I’m going to build a run in the cupboard/shelf space once I get a little extra money), he seems to pee mainly in his tray but also around it and occasionally a little further away! At the moment I have wood flooring, and what I currently do is just soak it into kitchen roll, put the kitchen roll in his litter tray and then clean the floor with disinfectant! It seems to work for a little while! But then he’s back to peeing outside of his tray within a day or two!
Eventually I want to get carpet put down so he can binky everywhere besides the rug, but for the time being I just put blankets down on half of his area! I thought he was only peeing on the wood flooring around his litter tray, but after cleaning his cage today and taking up the blankets for washing, I’ve realised he’s been peeing in his straw hut too, which has completely soaked the blankets in urine! He also pees on my bed constantly, which I took just as a territorial thing and stopped him from getting up there! Is there any way to deter him away from peeing in his hut/around his litter tray?
He’s 5 months old and I always keep his litter tray clean but not TOO clean as he seems to avoid going in there if it’s full or if it’s really clean with no previous pee/poops sprinkled over the top!
I’m desperate – I want to get carpet put down in my room but do not want him soaking the entire thing since he seems to think everything is a good toilet!
