I have to show this one. We have been talking about surrogates sometimes, some rabbit owners report they really work to comfort and entertain a lone bun, or a widowed bun. I wanted one for fun to add to my group as a fifth bunny to displace Neigey as the newest member but the one I got from the Binkybunny store is so soft… it ended up in my bed. (Yes, I do have plushies at my age)

I was so surprised how huge it was!

                      Aww, very cute!

When I was little every now and then my teddy would disappear and it could always be found on the dog’s bed – usually with Mutley in much the same position as that last pic. *sniffles and misses her doggy*

                          Love it.
I tried a surrogate tiger for Sammy and she groomed it. When it didn’t groom her back, she ignored it from then on.

This one is really nice, but probably only for me.

Er Petzy? There’s a couple of plushies in your hayrack again. Racks are irresistible to all bunnies by the looks.

Love the pictures. This plushie reminds me of Abbie the english lop we met thru BB at one time. Does this lovely bunny have a name?

LOLZ @ Brittany….love the Neigey comment. He does look rather perturbed….

I also got this ‘surrogate’. (plus the little dutch finger puppet) I hope to be able to use it during the impending bonding, but also, well, it’s SOOOO soft! *snuggles* I may have to sacrifice one of my other bunny plush to do the dirty deed instead.

Folkmanis makes terrific puppets. I bought a dragon for my son by them when he was wee. I don’t know what’s happened to it, but it was a great toy for him for most of his youth.

This might be a good place to bring up something I’ve been curious about. I have several rabbit plushies on the floor and on the couch for the rabbits to enjoy when they come out for play time. When Bindi or Stormy want to take a little rest they ALWAYS sleep only on the floor next to the little pink bunny. Bindi snuggles up to it. They all groom it, including Olivia. Stormy has groomed it so much I call it the “crusty bunny” because it’s gotten so yucky from it. I don’t want to undo all his work by washing it. I have 3 plushies on the back of the couch and Olivia always goes up at least once during play time to groom and chin them all, one by one. It’s so cute.

What do you make of this? It makes me feel really bad about them not having a bonded buddy. Do they sort of see the plush as a helpless rabbit that needs to be taken care of?

Interesting. My rabbits did not care for the plushy AT ALL. Neigey was briefly frightened by it but that was it. I have since washed it and it is now mine, all mine.
Unbonded bunnies are more into the surrogates anyways. If anything, LPT, I would interpret the interest in the plushy as a good sign, that your rabbits are curious and inclined to administer grooms. If you infuse the ‘crusty bunny’ with their scents it would help ease them into bonding.

Normally I’d say grooming is a sign of wanting to bond with another animal, but just last night, I caught Maryann grooming the business end of my bunny shop vac – so I now have no idea…

Aw that is cute!  You’re dog is like “my bunny!”  I tried putting a stuffed bunny with Sandy so she wouldn’t get lonely but she just tried to chewed it’s leg off, thus why we won’t be bonding her with another rabbit   I hate seeing her alone but it would be to much money for a 4th one and plus I think she’d kill any bun that we’d try to bond with; she scared me when we tried to bond her with the other two.  She likes the attention though.
