My 2 year old Dutch rabbit named Bobo (My sister named him), he has been pooping less, and as every day passes he seems to be pooping less. I stopped giving him pellets and started giving him more hay and water, he still eats. I think he might have a hairball stuck somewhere, since I started high school I’ve stopped grooming him for a while, so I think he licked up all that fur. He finished his molt about a month ago.

I’m trying to convince my dad to take him to the vet be checked out, he is NOT neutered since my dad believes taking a rabbit to the vet is unnecessary, I disagree, my dad thinks the problem will solve itself, any advice on convincing my dad to take him to the vet?

When I felt his stomach it felt a little hard, and I read somewhere that pineapple juice and dried papayas can help with hairballs. So I went out and bought a papaya and a pineapple, and had my mom order some oral syringes without the needle. Keep in mind I still don’t know if he has a hairball or early signs of GI Stasis but I desperately want him to get better. I have been suffering through depression for awhile and Bobo has been really helping it, to lose him now would be devastating. (I’ve tried telling my parents about my depression they don’t believe me, everything about them is frustrating) I really need help with Bobo I am very concerned for his health, also I need tips on convincing by dad to take Bobo to the vet. .

        Any help is appreciated

Take him to the vet just to be safe. If he does have GI issue you want to deal with it now to help fix the problem before it’s too late. But than it could be because he’s eating less since he’s not eating his pallets. My blue doesn’t really eat his hat but he still pooping like crazy. He eat more veggies and pallets.

If his poops are decreasing, he needs to see a vet. This is not something that you can treat at home.

GI stasis is very serious and can very quickly escalate. It’s important that the rabbit is seen by a vet so that they can check if he has a blockage, give him painkillers and sub-q fluids, and advise you whether to force feed him (dependent on whether he has a blockage – this is why it’s important to see a vet – if you force feed and he has a blockage it will make it a million times worse). They can also check for other issues that could be causing him pain and to stop eating, such as overgrown teeth.
