        Hi all!

My husband and I have been worried for over a week about the state of our little girl. She is an 11 month old Mini-Rex.

Over 1 week ago she stopped eating and was not acting her normal sassy self. We took her to a 24-hour vet and she was diagnosed with the early stages of GI Statis. She was given a injection for hydration and prescribed a ton of medicines including Simethicone, GI Motility, a pain reliever, 2 antibiotics and an antacid as well as Critical Care for forced feedings. She is a good girl and didn’t fight me too much on the medicine and forced feedings.

A few days after all these medicines there still wasn’t much change so we took her for a second opinion and the new vet took her off all the medicine except Simethicone. The vet there also trimmed her teeth. That was 5 days again now.

I have still been giving her Simethicone everyday – every 12 hours and Critical care once in a while, but today we decided to not give her any Critical Care and see where her appetite is at. Basically, she will nibble a piece of hay or 2 (orchard, botanical, timothy, oat varieties), won’t touch her pellets, has small amounts of parsley (her favourite) and will have 1 treat maximum. She usually devours her pellets and treats as well as hay, she usually has a very healthy appetite. It seems like she wants to eat but won’t. She has also been chewing on our baseboards and drywall which is immediately discouraged.

My husband and I are losing sleep and worrying constantly about her. We need some advice to ease our anxiety.

        Thank you in advance! <3

Sending {{{vibes}}} for your girl. I hope she returns to eating normally soon!

Is she producing some poop at all? Are you having to syringe feed the critical care or will she eat a thicker mix out of a bowl?

When the 2nd vet trimmed her teeth, was it just the front ones or did they sedate her and check all her molars?

GI stasis is more of a symptom rather then a stand-alone condition. It’s normally the result of something else going on.

Hello! Thank you for the well wishes. Her poops are regular but smaller and oddly shaped. Varying in colour and mostly hard. The vet just trimmed her teeth without anesthetic.

Hi! I’ve read other posts where it can take a while for buns to get back to normal after a tooth trimming. Did the second vet send home any pain meds afterward?

Yeah I have read that too, I was just surprised because it has already been 5 days
The other vet didn’t give pain meds but she did say to give the one she was prescribed before is she seems in pain. She is so hyper and silly most times so she hides it well if she is in pain.

I don’t have personal experience with tooth trimmings, but here is a recent discussion that mentioned recovery times that might help .

Thank you Luna! That does help. Taking her for a vet appointment tomorrow to see what else may be bothering her.
