         Hello fellow Bunny Owners!

I have a one year old, pure bred English Lop rabbit, male. He is litter trained, though some poops do fall out, afterall he is a bunny<3

He has white fur on his legs & feet. Now, he has some yellow stains on them ( from his peeing ) & they just won’t seem to come off with him grooming himself alone. Is there any special shampoo that is rabbit-safe & not tested on animals that I can use to sort of help him with the stains?

        Thanks<3

        Ashley & Sniffles

If it was me, I wouldn’t worry too much about stains, as long as there is no constant wetness. Does he get the stains because he pees outside the litter box?

If he’s always peeing  in the litter and still has stains, you may want to try another litter.  What are you using now? And if that doesn’t help, he may have a health issue that needs attention.

For reference, here is a link on bunny bum washes, but like I said, I wouldn’t bath him just for stains:

            Thank you for your reply!

He uses his litter box to pee & occasionally poops outside of it — I believe he likes to do it to annoy me, aha.

Currently, I use a pine shaving from Petco, one of the better ( expensive ) brands. He’s never had a problem with it. But he likes to sit in his litter box, which may be the cause of the staining… There is no constant wetness, I just wanted to have the stains removed so he could have white fur.

Wood shavings are not very good at absorbing. Plus it is recommended that you stay away from pine shavings because they can cause health problems. I would try something more absorbent like Yesterday’s News or wood stove pellets.

As for the staining, there isn’t really anything you can do about it if his feet keep getting in the pee. Once that problem is solved, it is just a matter of waiting until the fur on his feet grows out. No amount of shampooing will get the yellow out. Having a slight yellow tint isn’t all that uncommon.

I’m always happy to see E-Lops around here. I have 3 of them.

Pine shavings are only safe if they are kiln dried but even then they don’t make for great litter, imo. I use Equine Pellet Bedding (untreated wood stove pellets) and they work wonderfully while being incredibly cheap. They are kiln dried so they are safe. I put a bit of hay over the pellet litter and my white bunny doesn’t have issues with stained feet very often.

This is how I set up my litter boxes:
