so, I am looking after my friend’s ADORABLE lop-eared bunny! his name is bunbun and he’s about 7 months old right now. he follows me everywhere and honestly looks like a stuffed animal:

I had a question about his eating and drinking habits. He’s only drinking about an inch from his water bottle everyday, and this seems like so little. I follow him around with a water bottle and try to get him to drink some but he won’t, and he gets some extra water from his greens since I wet them. He’s eating, pooping, and peeing fine. Runs around, isn’t lethargic, isn’t neutered so he humps s his stuffed animal all the time. Is this normal? I guess I’m so used to my own buns gobbling up food and water.. but do bunnies have different eating habits?

My two rabbits differ greatly in their drinking and eating habits. They are separated and their water bowls are exactly the same. However, Velvateen’s bowl of water could last 2-3 days easily, although I wash it everyday. Fievel has two of the same water bowls at all times. I refill 2-3 times a day! Both have been to the vet and checked out. V has always been like this- since I got him at 7-8 weeks old. Fievel’s habits haven’t changed either and again, I’ve had him since 7 weeks old. I wouldn’t worry unless your friend says that he usually drinks more and now he’s not.

Oh my gosh, I think that is the cutest bun I have ever seen in my life (shh dont tell Huckleberry)
Maybe he doesn’t like licking the water bottle. Have you tried a bowl?

yeah, I tried giving him a bowl and he just left it there haha. my friend just replied to me and said he normally drinks about half of the bottle every day. could it be he’s still getting used to my place, he’s only been here for a few days? Or should I get him checked out?

Stress could cause their eating and drinking habits to change. Does he get veggies daily? If you give him more than usual, he could be making up the water in that sense. Also, if he does get veggies, you can wet them down before giving them to him and that will provide some extra water.
I really wouldn’t think that this warrants a vet visit just because his real mom is out of town. It could definitely be stress.

Does he get veggies? Are they rinsed and still damp when given to him? If so, he could be getting extra water from that so he won’t seem to drink as much.

yes, he gets rinsed veggies every day.

lol @ brittany my buns go through the entire bottle everyyyyy dayyyyyy.

hmm. I don’t know if his mama wets his greens before she gives them to him, so maybe that’s compensating? he’s acting super normal, very happy, running around, etc.. so I guess I’m just being paranoid haha. he did drink more than he did the first day so maybe he’s settling in.

sidenote: ISN’T HE FREAKING ADORABLE?!?! hahahahaha. it’s ridiculous.

He’s so cute! He look like my Fievel!
I wouldn’t worry terribly. Like I said, my two boys are on the opposite sides of the spectrum and stress can have a role in what they eat and drink. As long as he is drinking, I think he’s ok!

lol…Angie, maybe wonder if your bunnies are drinking too much? ^_^ just kidding….

OMG, he is a LITTLE MIMZY! 0_o I can barely remember him at that age, but Bunbun is seriously my bunny’s twin. Virtual snuggles are being administered as we speak! ((((((((((((((hugs bunbun))))))))))))))))))

Even the coloring is spot on. I see quite a few Holland lops here on BB and some of them have much lighter tones. But that is what my Mimz looked like as a baby and still does pretty much.

As far as the veggies and the water drinking, I notice Mimz doesn’t drink from his bottle as much as when he gets watered down veggies, so he’s probably getting enough fluids. If it’s very hot where you are, maybe offer him a bowl or crock of water if he seems a bit dry? He might take to it, I know Mimz did.

Gah…too adorable. My teeth are falling out…. 0_o

SUPER SQUEEEE!!!!! Wow, that bunny is extremely adorable! Seriously ridiculously cute. I think my friends would know better than to let me “bunny-sit” something so adorable. When they came to pick him up I’d say ”What bunny? What you talking bout?”

I wouldn’t worry about it. He is drinking, so he knows it’s there and he has access to it. You can’t really force a rabbit to drink, if you’re worried, leave out a bowl also. He might not drink out of it right away, but may take a few sips later on.

Exactly LPT. I think that is the real question Angie. HOW ARE YOU EVER GOING TO GIVE HIM BACK?!

Aaahhh…somehow I thought perhaps you were over at the friend’s house bunny sitting…and possibly house sitting as well. My bad. That makes more sense if he’s at your place and it’s unfamiliar to him, it could make him a bit uptight at first.
Glad to hear he’s drinking now though. How do your bunnies feel that there’s a different bun getting all your attention?

they’re being so affectionate it’s ridiculous, I’ve never seen them act like this haha. I didn’t think they would be vying for my attention or anything but once I go over to my bun’s area they’re grooming me like they haven’t seen me in months or something lol.

lol, yes she’s a close friend butttttttt she lives about 45 minutes away from me. I was wondering why they’re so curious to his scent, because when bunbun went up to the fence and tried to sniff rorschach, rorschach totally lunged at him and went all rambo on me (which I’ve NEVER seen haha). so, obviously they’ve been on separate sides of the living room since then. but when they sniff me it’s like he likes bunbun? oh these crazy bunnies…
