I was looking at my holland lops ears today (i look at the insides everyday just to check up on her but today she was laying on my chest sleeping and the light made her ears semi-transparent for a perfect inspection) i noticed scabs, nothing severe, just light, rough textured patches in her ears. Im with her pretty much all day, shes my best friend so shes always in the same room as me if not right on top of me, she only occasionally scratches her ears maybe if shes been sitting for too long or just random grooming sessions, its a very rapid scratch, im just a bit worried that type of scratching could be hurting her ears? Something to be worried about or is this normal for lop eared buns?

Check her nails, and make sure they are not to long or sharp. If that doesn’t help, you do need to go to a vet, as scabs in the ears can be caused by ear mites, or a variety of other things.

If a bunny had ear mites would you be able to see the mites? What could they be from also? Looking at her ears and feeling them it does not seem like she has a buggy problem it just seems like she has dry skin in there, there are no flakes or dandruff and no signs of bleeding.

If the mites are really bad, you would most likely notice a lot of debris in her ears but sometimes, if it’s a mild case, only a vet can see by looking with a scope. Mites can cause dandruff. Mites are not a big deal to treat. The vet would prescribe you a topical treatment.

Yes if they are mites its a very mild case, theres no discharge in her ears, there is a bit of dandruff on her forehead though. Visiting the vet tomorrow morning!
