Hi everyone!! So my baby bun, Togepi, just recovered from her second hit of GI stasis. She is only 1 year old
Totally my fault because the first time I fed her way too much lettuce and it gave her severe diarrhea. This second time again it was fault because I kept feeding her sugary treats such as fruits and other treats from the pet store or it could have been the change in her hay since they ran out of her old hay and the new hay was very brown and stringy. I am a new bunny owner so don’t hate me, but I definitely learned my lesson to not give into her cuteness anymore when it comes to treats!
This second time around with GI stasis hit her hard. It was diarrhea, mucus from her anus, lethargy, no appetite, the whole 9 yards. She also recovered a lot slower. Today was the 6th day of treatment (force feeding, antibiotics, probiotics) and she is finally eating little bits of hay, drinking water, and eating parsley. However, she is STILL not pooping. I understand that GI takes a lot of patience and time until the bun is back on track and given that today is the first day is not as lethargic and finally eating I know I need to be patient, but I would just like some input from other people’s experiences as to when your bunnies recovered ENTIRELY from a bad GI hit? When they started to eat and drink, did they poop IMMEDIATELY after or did it take some time? Her stomach is gurgling when I massage it also and is soft.
Thanks!! <3
