Bunny Playmate but not Lifelong Mate?

So I’m not sure this is in the right section but I’m not looking to bonding Bun Bun with my friend’s bunny so I thought I’d just go ahead and put this here. Basically, my friend has two lops that used to be bonded but she had to separate them because one of them has just reached sexual maturity and will hump the older bunny and do nothing else. Until she gets him neutered, they have to stay separated because all the young lop does is hump and spray if he comes in contact with older bun. I guess my friend feels a little guilty she has to separate them but none of the buns have seemed to show signs of depression. She thought it’d be a good idea to have Bun Bun and her older bun “hang out” every once in a while since her younger bun would just hump Bun Bun/show signs of aggression. Bun Bun is chill and her older bun is even chiller. If you put a hand on him, he’ll flop so I’m not scared her older bun will lash out but Bun Bun’s never been around another bunny and while it’d be ideal to have him get a permanent buddy, my mom won’t allow it so I thought maybe this was the next best option? Would this be a good idea? Bun Bun or her older bun aren’t showing any signs of loneliness but I admit it’d be nice for Bun Bun to get some bunny interaction once in a while.

I forgot to mention Bun Bun isn’t neutered because he’ already 2 and while I know that’s not too old, I’m scared to have him go under operation since he’s never been under anesthetics. He never sprays or bites or humps us humans and he acts like he’s neutered so will seeing another bunny change his behavior? My friend’s older bun is neutered though so yeah.

I am certainly no expert but I believe its next to impossible to bond bunnies if they are not both neutered. I don’t know if it would be a good idea or even possible to bond rabbits that are only going to see each other from time to time either, others with more experience can hopefully answer that.

I had three rabbits at one point. Two were together, but one of them got along with either of the other two, so I could move that one in with Gus on occassion when I needed to. All three of them would have bunny parties in the back yard and did fine with a lot of room to hop around. I think it’s a nice change of pace for a rabbit if it works. I am thinking that Bun Bun won’t be a good boy, though, if he’s not neutered, but if you’re right there anyway, I don’t see what the harm would be to try, but don’t use me as the final word. Trying to bond 3 got nasty and I was afraid to ever try again. Noone beats up on Gus!!
I also don’t recommend you neuter him simply for the occasional play date if you aren’t having any other problems with him to warrent surgery. Are you sure he’s not neutered? I got a rabbit from someone who called herself a breeder, who’d gotten a rabbit from someone else. She was selling him because he wasn’t interested in the girls. We figured out why!!

I’m still weighing the pros and cons. It’d be nice for Bun Bun to get some bunny contact but I don’t want it to affect his behavior in any way/for things to get nasty. If I do bring him over for “play time” and they get along, I’m worried if things to go okay, Bun Bun will realize what it’s like to have another bunny by his side and get depressed. I’m positive Bun Bun isn’t neutered haha When he flops we can see his boy bits and the vets confirmed it also.

Being around another bunny (even an older, neutered bunny) can change your bunny’s behavior. He may become aggressive towards the other bun or you. He may begin to display territorial behaviors even he doesn’t right now (humping/urine spraying). I would not risk this personally unless you were prepared to get him neutered if his behavior warrants it.
