  So…. one of my friends had sent a picture to me of a bun bun in a Pet Store here. It was a pet store we stopped going to after they had a bunny that had an obvious respiratory infection and no one would do anything about it and kept saying he was fine. That bun also had no hay. So now that I’m really familiar with the rescues around here – I went in to check him out with the BF. He was covered in sawdust (what they were keeping them in) and had no hay but I couldn’t see any obvious signs of sickness. We left and I said I was going to come back in a few days to check out him…
  
  So TONIGHT… I was working all night – the boyfriend picked me up from work and when I got in.. He was randomly like “Oh, I brought Simba with me” and I was instantly like “what?” because there was no reason for Simba to have to be in the car to come pick me up… So I look inside… and THAT BUNNY was sitting there. The BF told me he thought about him all last night and today and just couldn’t keep him there, so while I was at work he went and got him and came straight to my work afterwards to pick me up. So here is the newest little guy/girl of our bunny family.

  And this is him in his new little home, all cleaned up from mats and yuckiness of his eyes. (Picture is slightly dark but I was trying not to bother him).
  
  So the new bun is approximately (from my guess) two months old at the most. He’s really tiny, probably about a pound and a half. So we stocked him up with some alfalfa hay and pellets to munch on. They had no idea whether it was male/female and we attempted to look but couldn’t figure it out. We are setting him up a vet visit ASAP to get him cleared for good health. Crazy to have a baby in the house again… But I’m happy this little guy isn’t sitting in that tiny glass cage with no food covered in mats anymore.

  I do too. I can see my husband doing this after we have more space. Every time.we go to a pet store we try to talk to the staff about the buns and need to keep ourselves from.bringing home lots of friends for.Foo. congrats on your new addition!

  I find her/him adorable and absolutely gorgeous too! I LOVE that now there’s Three Tans and another Lionhead! Haha! Simber Bun won’t look like such the odd man out. Although, I can see him being like “WHY DO YOU LOOK LIKE THAT BUNNY?”, not realizing he looks exactly the same… LOL.
  
  She/He still hasn’t eaten more than a few stalks of hay which is worrying me a bit – but I will keep watching him/her to make sure she begins. She’s only been around her food and water for about 2 hours though so maybe she/he just hasn’t calmed down enough.
  
  Speak of the devil – finally started eating more hay! Tiny bit but I’ll take what I can get.
  
  Worries me that he’s been sneezing a bit. But I wonder if that could be the pine crap, CareFresh, or hay she/he just isn’t used too. I’ll keep an eye out for poos as we haven’t had any yet so I can make sure the baby poos are good! I forgot how stressful and worrisome having a baby can be!

  Oh gosh pet stores annoy me! Glass cage and sawdust is bound to cause respiratory irritation. Any chance you can suggest alternatives before they stick the next bun in there?
  I hope you see big improvements in this little one. <3

  Finally got some pellets in their little tummy! Which makes me happier.
  
  We have suggest alternatives before and they never change. It’s ridiculous. I’ve told the rescues and such about them but I don’t know how else to work with them. They really are very ignorant to how they treat the few rabbits they bring in. Drives me insane. I have fought with them before about it. We make a habit of not going into that pet store anymore… but low and behold, we ended up with this little girl/guy. I’m glad though. Can’t save every bun but I just saved this one.
  
  Anyone have any suggestions to arguing with this pet store or attempting to get things changed in there? It really bothers me although people have protested them having ANY animals much less rabbits. Would be willing to take measures if someone has ideas. It’s called Petland – many cases of the animals dying right after you buy them. So I’m hoping this little bugger comes back from his vet visit healthy as a horse. (Odd saying since my horses always were as sensitive as these bun buns!)

  I would call a branch of the humane society, or SPCA. Often they will look into things like pet stores when rescues can’t do anything to help. OHS here, for example, has been authorized to do animal seizures when necessary by the sheriff’s department, while the rescue i volunteer with can’t.

  Gosh, he looks just like the little guy i rescued on Wednesday! Just as fluffy, and covered in matts like yours! Mine is supposedly a year old but is also tiny, having never been fed any hay or vegetables Good luck with him, he’ll perk up in no time

  Are you keeping him quarantined away from the other rabbits? I would for a couple of weeks, not only to make sue he’s healthy, but you don’t want the new bun scent to break up the new bond.

  We are heading to the vet in about 2 hours! So we will find out what the little rugrat is then!!! I’ll come back with an update on both sex and the cause of all the sneezing hopefully!
  
  Boy is he/she getting fiesty! So much personality in such a tiny little package! Haha! He’s taken to his litter quite well, but I’m sure that will change as soon as those hormones start to kick in.. Oy vey. We have just been calling him Baby Bun until we found out the sex – so tonight will be the night of naming!

  Someone on my blog mentioned Fluffy – but that was actually the name the shelter that was going to euthanize Simba gave him, so there is no naming the new little one that name!

  tanlover, did your bf pick this bun up from Best Pets in Pacifica, CA? I swear I went to look there and your bun looks exactly like the poor bun that was sitting in a glass cage alone in that pet store.

  Yuppp, this feisty little furball is a GIRLLLLLL.
  
  She is about 3-4 months old (but looks younger because she is really skinny) so we need to get her weight up quite a bit. She’s been put on meds for 2 weeks as she was diagnosed with an upper resp. infection. But the vet is happy with everything else!
  
  Now… for a name. Every name I suggest is put down by the boyfriend (sorry Snowy!)! Hahah. But of course, he has no names of his own to offer… Of course.

  I know a bunny named Quinn, she’s currently up for adoption *coughs mightly* And adding on to the list of five related names, all of the following names mean fifth: Quintina, Quentina, Quintana, Quintessa, Quintonna, Quintonette and Quintonice, and Penthea.

  The BF has deemed all the names not fit for this little princess.. LOL.
  
  We are thinking… MAYBE… Nora but he still has yet to “fully commit” to the name yet. He told me to e-mail him another list of names today. It was so much easier when we were just naming them after Pittsburgh hockey players – but there’s only 4 of them he will name bunnies after and the only one left is Evgeni Malkin and I’ve tried every version of making that into a girl as possible: Mallie, Geni, Gena, Evi… nothing suits her he says. OY VEY. Sidney was so easy! This girl is sooo hard, haha!

  Not this time! hahaha! We just couldn’t find out – and so it looks like the Tans will be the designated hockey players. And the Lionheads will be characters from movies and shows! Even though we didn’t name Simba.
