Hello first time poster here and had a question about my girl Brownie. She is a 4.5 year old Rex bunny who weighs about 8 pounds and has a sassy attitude…. I tell you this because if this potential problem bothered her at all I wouldn’t hear the end of it.

Anyway I was trimming her nails and on her back foot the top of one of her nails was really rough. I pull back her fur and saw that the nail bed was pink instead of white like the others. Ended up putting some Silver Sulfadiazine I had left over from an infection she got after getting fixed 2 years ago. After about an hour her nail bed was back to its normal white color.

Now my question is has anyone ever seen what that is on her nail? Brownie lets me prop her up in my lap easily and while holding the nail firmly I can scrap off some of it with my finger nail (Obviously treats are provided as a bribe for being a good girl).

None of the local vets have answered me back so except bringing her in for a check up thought I’d check around online.

Also here is my beautiful girl after I found it on her nail

And this is Brownie with her husbun Oreo

From the photos, it reminds me of a fungal infection. It can cause the inflammation you see, plus it can cause deformation of the nail. It just looks different in rabbits than people. Here is an article that might be helpful:
