Bunny Leg Injury?

Hi everyone, I know I haven’t posted in a long time!

We had a little accident here yesterday  My boyfriend accidentally kicked Mr. Bun-Bun in the leg and he bumped into a table. It was one of those things where he knew he was underfoot and was trying to avoid him, but Mr. Bun-Bun still got in the way and got kicked a little even though my boyfriend was already pulling back on his foot. ARGH.

Mr. Bun-Bun hopped back to his cage holding up his left rear leg (not putting any pressure on it.) I was really worried about him but almost immediately he was hopping around normally again. Last night he was running and even doing binkies. I’ve been watching him very closely obviously. So I didn’t think about it anymore. This morning he was running and doing binkies again, at one point I bent down to pet him and he stood up on his hind legs. All of a sudden he hopped back to his cage using only one leg again. What’s going on? I don’t think there’s any way it could be broken, he wouldn’t be able to put any pressure on it at all right? Once in his cage he was using both legs again but now he’s laying down.

What should I do? He should be fine if he’s able to run and binky, does he just need some time? Maybe it’s a little sore? I feel so bad!

Oh no, poor Mr. Bun-Bun! Can you feel his leg, to see if there are any spots that are particular sensitive/tender or swollen? Taking him in to the vet might be a good idea too.

 I went to the rabbit shelter yesterday, and after I got back Remi was REALLY INTERESTED in my jeans…I ended up tripping over him/kicking him in the side lightly multiple times last night, because the silly boy just would not stay out of my legs wherever I went! Silly buns can’t stay out of the way!

Maybe I’ll try feeling his leg later, right now he’s in his cage where I can’t reach him. I assume it’s whatever part of his foot/leg that’s stressed when he rocks back onto his hind legs. Poor baby!

I know everyone has accidentally kicked their pets, I kicked him a bunch of times when he first moved in and I was only used to cats. That sounds bad, it’s more like nudging him with my foot, causing him to slide across the wood floor. They have a particular knack for getting underfoot. My boyfriend is super-paranoid about it because he grew up with pet rabbits too, so it’s not like he was stomping around the house. I don’t want to make him feel too bad since it was an accident. I just think it can’t be that serious if he’s able to zig-zag run and binky???

These things happen even with the most careful person. I would confine him to his cage for a few days to keep any possible injuries or strains from becoming worse.

I once had a baby rabbit who had a femur fracture and I didn’t notice it until the person I adopted him to mentioned it so I took him back and the vet did an x-ray and discovered it – all we could do was confine him to a cage to let the bone heal. He seemed to be eating and drinking fine to me but rabbits are good at hiding pain.

I’d actually be taking him to the vet if he were mine, just to be certain what the problem is even though the cure is most likely what Sarita described.
If he’d gotten over it and never had a problem again I would say he was OK, but a leg going out from under him, even temporarily, indicates an injury and I’d hate to see it be a lifelong problem just because it didn’t get checked and healed properly.

Hi I’m Jeff, I’m new to this forum and I don’t know how to use it very well so, I probably don’t know if this message is would be sent. Anyways, I have 2 bunnies one named Mr. Bunny the other one named Kammy and I live in the Philippines so bunny stuffs are really hard to find here and recently one of my bunny got injured (Mr. Bunny) my nanny accidentally squished his leg in a rocking chair and so his front left leg got injured and he hasn’t go to the vet yet and I’m not sure when I could go, because we have lots of problems and I have Asian Parents specifically Chinese and they can be quite annoying because it’s complicated I’d rather not tell, but I love them thou. Okay, let’s get back to my bunny. So my bunny is doing pretty fine and hasn’t go to the vet yet but would soon and it’s just that his leg is kinda deformed, but he’s doing normal things and he can even run and jump and I just want some advice from others. Thanks.

Could you get us a picture of the deformed leg? Do you think there are broken bones? Sometimes injury is to the soft tissue, for example ligaments can get torn. We recently had a bunny here with a forefoot/leg that was accidentally squished, so the foot just hung and dangled. That bunny healed very well with a splint and cage rest. The owner of that rabbit is in a place where rabbit vets are very hard to come by. Rabbits’ bodies are good at bone renewal provided they get adequate amounts of calcium in their diet.

Do you think your bunny is in pain? Does he eat and drink and poop? You should probably limit his running and jumping.

Oh hi, thanks for your concern my bunny went to the vet already and the vet said he has fracture on his radius and ulna bone and they put some plaster and band all over his left feet and he’s doing very well actually, he does the same thing as usual and also the vet gave me some medicines for my bunny.

Thank you the vet that took good care of my bunny is actually a celebrity in the Philippines and he said after 1 month my bunbun would get his X-ray again to see if any difference happens to my Mr. Bunny and imma actually do videos tracking his recovery in my YouTube channel. But anyways, thank you for taking your time to reply! I really appreciate it.

That’s great Mr Bunny got some vet attention. Hopefully all will be well with healing.
