Bunny keeps trying to escape

So I’ve got an eight month old male bunny named Binky (common name but it suits him) who will not stop trying to escape the area I keep him in, I use a babygate to keep him in the section of my house that has my room, the bathroom and a hallway but he keeps getting over it, and other things I’ve tried aren’t working to keep him in. Even when I’m in the room with him he’s trying to get out. It’s probably because he’s seen the other house bunny, a girl named Panda in her cage and when he does get out he goes right to her cage on the other side of the house  which she hates (she starts honking/sneezing which I think means she’s mad).

How can I train him not to keep trying to escape? He can’t have the run of the house because we have three large dogs. Also. he pees and poops on my bed when he’s otherwise littertrained, if I put a litter box on there will he quit it? I cannot pick him up to put him in his litterbox when he does that, he doesn’t tolerate it at all. So far when I have to leave the room I put him in his cage but I hate doing that because its small. I try to leave him out of his cage when I’m at work but its just a stress for my mom to keep an eye on him when he escapes the barrier.

I’m at my wits end here, any advice appreciated! (here’s a pic of him in the sink, right after he figured out how to drink from the tap because he is just that smart…)

I would definitely suggest getting at least one of them fixed (panda would probably be a better choice, but I would suggest both if possible) and then bond them so you do not have to worry. I still haven’t completely bonded my two so my Quicksilver still harasses his big sister lol

For peeing on the bed, all I can really suggest is keeping him off the bed. If you can’t be home, put something around the bed so he can’t get on it or something on the bed so he doesn’t want to be up there. Fixing him might help with this, as it helped with my bun.

Baby gates, yea, learned the hard way those don’t work lol. I actually use a plastic gating or lining or whatever you want to call it. Kinda looks like chicken wire or gating, is plastic, can be found in the outdoor section of the hardware store with the gates and they usually sell it at different heights. The kind I get is a dark green. Pretty tough plastic but you may have to replace it or flip it now and then until your bun realizes chewing it won’t get him far. Only thing I’ve found that can be hung without a huge fight lol

Hm…. getting him or Panda fixed isn’t an option, I’ve heard too many horror stories about it and vets around here won’t even go near rabbits. I’d rather just keep them separate.

Haha yeah I tried keeping him off with storage cube grids as a wall but he’s too smart and gets over it by climbing, so I gave in and put a tarp on my bed but now hes just peeing and pooing all over it. I gotta find something I can use as a litterbox and hope it works.

So basically nothing I can do to stop his “I gotta get out” behavior? I have to just outsmart him and build something better to keep him in? Darn…

I think the only problem with not fixing them is that , for Panda, being a little lady, is that they can get cancer. For the gentleman treat him like a child. Be behind him 24/7 until he learns. Lol.
