ever since i got toby, he’s been licking me non stop. i went away on vacation for 3 weeks and he stayed with my parents. my dad told me that toby wouldn’t stop licking him on the leg. he also licks my mom and all my friends that come over. at the moment, he doesn’t have any toys or chews to chew on or lick. i’ve tried sea grass balls, twine, toilet paper rolls, apple sticks, and he hasn’t shown interest in any of those. would a salt lick help? he really likes licking. or do i need to get him a toy that he can lick and chew on? any recommendations would be helpful

A licking bunny is a compliment, if anything! A lot of people on here would pay big money for their bunnies to lick them as much as Toby licks. It just shows he’s extremely friendly!

Bunnies show their affection by grooming their partners or humans, and in most cases, it’s their way of wanting groomed too. I can really only recommend that you give him more attention, since that’s probably what he wants I think holland lops are just big balls of attention-seeking babies – once I got mine a husbun, she licks him like crazy too. Salt licks don’t have the best reputation, and from what I’ve seen, bunnies will give it a lick and then go… nah!

              Thanks @poppyhani

I guess he just wants more attention. I wish I could get him a partner but I’m still in school and I don’t have the time. And yeah, salt licks sound DISGUSTING! I still would like to get him natural chew toys. Any recommendations?

My bunnies are very fond of those wooden mats you get, and those hay-based mats are also really good, if maaaaybe a little messy, but they’ll attack it sparingly. Give them a sheet of cardboard? They’ll rip it up for days. The only issue is you have to make sure they’re not actually eating too much of it, but it works wonders.

So in short, anything they can rip. You can get forage cubes which are a lot of fun for nibbly bunnies, and I’m generally very fond of the Rosewood brand you can get on amazon. I just make sure to check and see the reviews though, because while some of their products are great, they do tend to put too much glue in the less natural ones. Also, a toilet roll tube with a treat in the middle and packed full of hay at either side equals a very happy, tube-throwing bunny!

Salt licks are not necessary because a complete rabbit diet of hay, variety of veggies, and pellets covers all minerals and nutrition they need. The licking is more so a communication tool, not a need for salt!
