My Nellie Belle has always run to see me when I walk in a room, cuddled with me when I’m lying down and been an all around sweet bunny. A couple days ago we moved, and we had an escaped bunny situation. I had to wrangle her down and physically catch her to get her back into her cage safe and sound, but it terrified her. I thought it would be better she get scared than getting lost alltogether, but now she is terrified of me! She won’t come to me and won’t respond when I call, and won’t put her nose against mine through the cage like she has since I got her. I’m so worried that I permanently damaged our relationship and I’m so upset about it. Will she get over this and go back to herself?

She will! Give her time. And you need to do everything you’ve always done with your interaction with her. Don’t change a thing – even when she doesn’t respond to you – it’ll all be good soon. Yep – she just got scare. Permanent damage – NA!

She will get over it, but it may take a lot of time. I would start interacting with her like she were brand new. Sitting quietly, treats beside you, etc. It probably won’t take as long as getting a new bun to trust you, but that incident terrified her as you said, so she just needs to get past it.

And I can’t remember her age/neuter status, but any hormonal situation could also be a factor as well. I know as for my Bumpy, who wasn’t ever a snuggle-bun but he does come when I call him, whenever I do something that pisses him off, he will not come to me like usual for days. He does get over it, I’m sure Nellie will too.

Yep manic_muncher, I HAD to put Henry outside (outside! what was I thinking? Lol) cause our house was being sprayed for pests, and boy did he let me know he was unhappy! It took 3 days for him to acknowledge my presence. But yep, all good now. Phew!

Give her time – it’s probably more with the move than anything else.

Thank you guys! Nellie is still not back to herself, but she’s getting there. I think the banana bribes are slowly winning her over!

She’ll get over it! Moving can be stressful for bunnies, so it might be related to that more than the capture. She’ll adjust.
