Hi so i posted yesterday about my bunny who had just been neutered, he was excessively cleaning his wound and biting the bars. So today i’m kind of worried about an infection. Nemo hates being carried or just anyone touching anything below him. Therefore i had a bit of a stuggle to see his incision but i did get a bit of a better look. I’m not sure about how its supposed to look after 24 hours but i did some research and i suppose it kind of looks like the picture. But what i was wondering was if he has an infection, would he still flop down, jump and run around?

Can you describe what the incision looks like?

And it depends. When we think about infection, we think about pus growth, swelling, and signs of irritation. That being said, movement like flopping, jumping, and running may be a bit painful and lessen; however, due to medication, the advancement of an infection, and other factors, a rabbit may move freely as well. Wick functions quite normally when his teeth are irritating his mouth, and when he was constantly having sneeze attacks, he would still act normally too.

It’s great to consider activity, but I think for a surgical site, looking at the site can be a sign (and arguably something can look fine, but you’ll see the rabbit’s activity decline; both are important).

He doesn’t have any medication of any kind, the vet told us if it gets worse bring him in but after a while he only does it occasionally. But I got a better look at the incision and honestly I don’t know much about neuter but i don’t think it looks normal anymore. But he acts normal aside from the fact that he still cleans the wound a lot. I let him out earlier and made sure he didn’t run but he seemed happy to be out for a bit. I tried to add an image but it didn’t work. But it’s kind of red in the middle and on the outside it’s kind of a brownish colour, since I don’t know what parts should look like what so it’s hard to explain exactly

Check your inbox. I’ve sent you a PM.

And in terms of neuter and run space, as a rule, it’s best to limit running, jumping, and hopping for 4-7 days after the neuter, to ensure the site does not get strained. Although the rabbit may feel fine, he doesn’t know the ramifications that movement can have on a surgical site. It’s great that you made sure he isn’t running around too crazily!

Generally, it should look clean and unirritated, like a cut you might get that is healing properly.

The following is the rabbit’s neuter site:

I don’t know if perhaps the skin color was different from the beginning, but I am fairly sure Wick’s neuter site did not look like that – he is my only rabbit though and its been a while, so I cannot say definitively yours looks unhealthy. I do see a lot of random powder around it. Do you know where this may be coming from? It reminds be of a wound that is leaking liquid and it dries up.

I honestly have no idea it’s hard to keep tabs on his wounds since he barely lets me touch him right now, but I’m about to call the vet since they are open now
