Bunny has a wet butt!

I got my rabbit, Florence, about a month ago. I’ve noticed that when she comes out of the cage that she shares with my other bun, sometimes her butt is wet.

She has been bonded with my other rabbit for about a week and a half, they’re totally in love with each other and spend hours cuddling up and licking each other. 

She is spayed but was never litter trained. I’m trying to litter train her but she will use the litter box for the first day when its clean then she will just pee in the corners of the cage occasionally but use the box also until it is cleaned (its massive so this is usually every second day). She did this even before I put them together. I think that she’s getting wet from standing in her pee as its making my other bunny wet too. I clean it up as soon as I notice it but her favourite place to go is right by the door which they both jump up on when they see me. 

I can’t clean her up as she won’t allow me to pick her up and isn’t comfortable with being toughed past her waist, Im really worried it’s soaking her skin.

When I got her, she weighed 2.7kg, the vet had said she should be 2.2. Her weight is still coming down but you can see a massive difference in her, before she couldn’t even go on her hind legs, now she can jump on to my bed! Although, I have never seen her attempt to clean her bum. I also wondered if this could be a uti? 

I hope someone has an idea of how to help the buns as it can’t be nice for them to live in that.

First off, to help with litter training, it’s smart to have two litter boxes that’s what I had to do with Midas. Just put another litter box where she is peeing.. At one point, I had three litter boxes in Midas’s cage :/ not fun to clean. Also, if you have trouble litter training, you can try putting hay in the litter box buns love to munch while they potty. And, if she doesn’t like to go in it when it’s spotless (Midas doesn’t either), after you change the litter box, you can put some of her old poops in it

If it is hot where you live, she might just be sitting in the water to cool down..

It would be best to identify what it is that’s ON her butt. Is it urine? Feces? (If it’s diarrhea she needs to be seen by a vet immediately as that is an emergency, but seeing as how this has happened a few times now I’m guessing it’s not.) You may need to take some time to observe her. Some rabbits do have a rabbit of plunking their rear ends in their water dish, normally by accident.

If she seems to be unable to control when or where she urinates or is seemingly having trouble urinating, that also needs to be seen right away by a rabbit-savvy vet.

Otherwise, it could be that she’s pushing her rear into a corner to urinate into a corner to mark it. This is normal behavior but should be trained away eventually.

Have you tried putting a screen (I use a cake cooling rack) over the top of the litter tray so that urine drops through? This works really well for one of my bunnies.
