Bunny Growling?

Hi guys!

I recently posted about my bun, Arthur, circling my feet. He started to become aggressive and at first I thought ‘Oh he needs neutered!’ but then I started to think that he probably wasn’t getting enough play time. So I’ve been giving him as much as I possibly can. I’ve noticed a great change in his aggression. It’s not completely gone, but it’s better. Actually, that will lead into my following question(s)…

There are only a few instances when I see his aggression coming out; when I feed him and when I try to get him back in his cage.

Sometimes, when I feed him if he jumps at my hand, nips, and growls. Why? Is he just an aggressive eater? Does he feel like I’m invading his space? At first it would scare me and I would pull my hand away so he would just keep doing it over and over. Now I just act like he’s not bothering me, so he only does it once then stops. How do I get him to stop completely? If that’s at all possible.

Occasionally Arthur feels a little sassy when I try to get him back in his cage. The other day I came in and he was up on my desk. I think I startled him so he jumped down and I had to get him in his cage because I had to leave for class. He hopped towards his cage so I followed him and I bent down to scoop him up and he turned towards me, leapt through the air at me and growled! This is not the first time he’s done that either. I don’t understand why?

Arthur is my first bunny and he’s still pretty young, about 5 or 6 months.

Food aggression is common enough in rabbits. Hes likely overly excited for his food, so he attacks you for it, accidentally. My Blue has some food aggressions and to help him with that, we wouldnt give him his food until he calmed down. If he bit, we would say “Ow!” then turn our backs to him until he realized he cause pain. Once he learned to calm down around food, we started petting him first, then giving him the food so he was already pretty calm by the time hsi food touched the floor. He learned pretty fast this way, but not all tactics for for all bunnies. If your bunny seems to calm down when you ignore him while you give him his food, i would continue trying that

Hes not done playing. Is it possible to attached a pen to his cage so he still has room to run around and play while you are away?

Unfortunately as of now I don’t have anything to allow him to have the room.

Can you get an xpen to attach to his cage so he has more room to run and play while you are not there?
