Where I live we’ve just hit the tail end of winter, which means spring is almost here! Thank goodness, because my buns going stir crazy. Effy loves being outside, binkies like the march hare, pretty sure he’d stay out there forever if I let her. So, I’m planning on making her, and hopefully a new boy bun, a rabbit safe garden made just for them. It will be completely fenced off, so they can’t escape (and even if they manage to, they still have to get through another fence to be in any danger). but of course, I’ll have a bench so I can sit out there with them at all times anyway, I never leave my bun outside unattended. I’m going to grow wild flowers for them to munch on and maybe some vegetables or herbs. I can’t wait to start work, if only this pesky snow would melt!

Do any of you guys have something similar? Any flowers your buns particularly enjoy that you can suggest?

I was thinking on planning my garden this year with a bunny garden too!! I get tired of the snow too!! I’m gonna fence off a section and put mesh over the top, so hawks don’t get them. I would never leave mine unattended, but we have a lot of brave hawks around!! can’t wait to see pics of yours!!!

Ooh! Can’t wait to see yours either! I thought about planting some carrots and lettuce for me and them, but Effy would just gobble it all up and get rounder and rounder! I haven’t thought of a good way to allow her limited access.

It’s the middle of summer here (we’ve just had floods up and down the east coast of Australia) and I’m starting up a bunny garden. I’ve sprouted some endive and radicchio in egg cartons and will transfer them into my raised garden in the next few weeks when they get a bit bigger, I’ve also got some mixed lettuce, pak choy, baby carrots and a few other bunny safe seeds to plant out, I’m also going to grow some things for my mother – beetroot, silverbeet (swiss chard) and some flat ‘snow’ peas in the other half of my garden.

I’m kind of glad that it doesn’t snow here during winter, we’re lucky to get near freezing.

Toady, how do you keep your bunny from eating too much of it?
We get about 3 feet here, in a normal winter. Its fun at first, then after new years it starts to become not so fun.

My garden is outside and I’m planning only to harvest when needed.

And I know what you mean about snow, I spent almost 3 months in Canada (September to early December) and there was enough snow to take away the novelty of it, especially when it was -22 Celcius outside.

maybe you can get a little fence and only give her limited access to part of the garden. maybe just a row at a time??? or just have her go in for 10 minutes a day!! I’m so excited for spring to be here!!! I’m more worried about what I’m planting for the bunnies than I am planting for myself!! ha ha!! How big of a garden to you have to work with???

Probably about 70 Sq. Ft for her garden, but there’s another garden that my grandparents and I use for our food.
