bunny fur

i have four dwarf bunnies and one of them has long thick fur and sheds a lot during the summer. i brush him all the time but that doesn’t seem to help at all and you can tell his fur is bothering him. i was curious if anyone knows whether or not it’s safe to shave a dwarf bunny?

Trim his fur with scissors because shaving is more dangerous and stressful.

My way may be a little strange, but, its the only way that I can get either of my buns to sit still for it. Ive tried trimming as well, never got to shaving. Both of mine are dwarfs and have really fine fur so the brushes never really do help. I actually get a lint roll (buy the cheap ones. what you get is what you pay for. Cheaper always seem less sticky, which, is good for a delicate bunny!). Ill sit them on my lap, gently rub it across their fur (I’m assuming they think I’m just petting them) and seems to help a lot with the shedding. My little hyper buns are actually pretty calm when I do this. I usually use 2 sheets, do it once a day for 2 or 3 days right as its getting to that time of year, and it usually keeps them pretty clean from flying fur for a few weeks! I may end up doing it two or three times during the end of spring, all summer, and early fall months, but its definitely worth it and they don’t seem to mind it.

lillian, I just had to try the lint-roll tip on Bam, and wow, what a success! He didn’t seem to mind at all, he even licked my free hand. And he looks so good now and no annoying hair is flying around in the room. Thank you!

Mine HATES the lint roller. I have to just follow him around for a little while, get him as many times as possible, give him a treat and then deal with getting the bunny butt for a few hours.

The lint roller your using, is it really sticky? I did mess up once, bought a name brand, then bam, stuck to her fur like glue! My bun was pretty upset lol! As for following him around and not wanting to stay still, he may just be hyper and needs to get rid of some of that energy! Chasing the bunny can stress them out more. Let them come up to you on their own will when you want to do it (of course, unless you found something easier and less stressful, in which I say, stick to that)

No, he mostly just hates it all. It works wonderfully though, sadly. Fortunately he seems to be done with his crazy amount of shedding, and is back to normal, so I have a little time before I HAVE to find something that works better. I’ve been using wet hands, but he doesnt like that much easier. We’ve tried everything, except the textured rubber glove thing that I think I’ll try next.
