I just recently adopted a bonded pair from a rescue after being dumped in a park, fostered and then taken in by a family and returned. They finally have a forever home with us where they have a wonderfully large x-pen area and are free roam when we are at home.

I have had 3 buns over the last 16 years and they have all been at most 4 pounds or under. The new buns are much larger and weigh in at 8 and 10 pounds. They are adjusting really well to our home and are very good with their litter habits. The other day when I was working from home (alone) I heard a very clear fart from where they were laying. I have since heard the same noise a few days later. I also have a live video stream of my rabbits so I can watch them when we are away from home and it was not my imagination because the noise is on the video too.  😆

I’m just wondering if anyone else has actually ever heard their rabbits fart!? In the 16 years I have owned bunnies I have never heard one fart- but am wondering if it is due to the size difference?

          😃😃😃

I once heard my bun Yohio fart, it was just a quiet shoo-shoo-shoo. He weighed around 3 kilos (6 lb). I knew it was a fart because it smelled like a fart. 🤣

Yes, bunnies with a sensitive tummy can toot, no matter the size. Our previous rabbit Breintje was a Netherland Dwarf, and that breed is prone to upset tummies. He had a very sensitive system as well and he often had a loudly bubbling stomach followed by farts that just sounded like air whistling out. The smell was a lot more impressive, however…whew…. 😯

We put him on grain-free pellets and that worked really well. He still had the occasional gas cramps, and I gave him Simethicone for that. It’s sold for babies under the name Infacol.

I knew his routine pretty well, and if he wasn’t begging for food by 6, he’d be doing belly presses against the floor half an hour later. By giving him Simethicone on time he could pass the gas a lot faster.
