        Hi guys,

I have a Holland lop female, age 1 1/2. She has been spayed about 8 months ago.  So about 5 months ago, she started drinking and peeing a lot, having to fill up her water bowl more than a couple of times a day. I have 3 other buns and she drank more than them combined everyday. I recently took her to the vet and they did blood tests and everything came back normal. They did an ultrasound and found her right kidney enlarged. The vet called me to tell me that. She is thinking it could be cancer of the kidney ( lymphoma) or some other infection( even though it didn’t show up on blood or urine test). She said we can do a UTI test to rule it out, from there, if she does have a UTI, we will treat it. If it comes back negative, she will have to have a biopsy of her kidney. She started to lessen her water intake a day or so ago.

Does anyone else have experience with this? I have a bunny with a huge issue with tooth root accesses and I am so concerned, I don’t have another bun of mine to have cancer

I do not have rabbits with kidney problems, but I have failing kidneys. Ive likely been through many talks with my doctor that you are having with your bunnys vet. Im sorry the both of you are going through this

This may come off rude, and I really dont mean it to, but with the risk of cancer and her kidney not getting worse, why not opt for the biopsy instead of treating for UTI? A biopsy will be able to tell you much more than whether a UTI test works or not. Often, a biopsy can tell you whats causing the problem, which could be anything from cancer, failure, disease, to a simple stone or need for diet change (etc). Having the biopsy done is better to get done sooner than later to avoid infection/cancer spreading, and to treat the issue asap.

Regardless of what order of process you choose, there is a high chance she will be ok. Like humans, rabbits can live perfectly normal lives with only one kidney if it came down to her needing surgery

You are so right, I think I will call the vet tomorrow and get the pricing of the biopsy, and then call A&M to get their pricing and see which is more cost effective since A&M has dealt with my other bun’s abscess.

Thank you for your advice, Id rather get it done right the first way than to spend time doing other tests that eventually lead to the biopsy.

Has the vet talked to you more about surgery? It sounds like something she will need. Sorry to hear it
