Bunny doesn’t like bigger area?

Does anyone else have a rabbit who has issues when you give them a larger living space?

Pacey and Marshmallow both were in 4’x4′ pens they loved it. My stepfather finally fixed the ceiling in my closet/extra room a week ago so I thought fantastic the bunnies can each have a 6’x9′ or 8’x9′ area to themselves (the room is 6’x18′  or 8’x18′ can’t remember which). Pacey of course lived in the whole area for awhile when I first got him until the ceiling caved in so he was very happy doing binkies all over and just being happy. 

Marshmallow on the other hand seems to no be so happy lol she is thumping, rattling the divider, hiding in her box a lot, dumping her litter box, pooping EVERYWHERE, peeing in her hay box, etc. So what’s the deal? She didn’t have an issue moving from one room to another or from one house to another when I went to stay with someone for a little while. But give her extra room and she is flipping out!

The only time she seems to be calm is when Pacey is laying right up against the divider.

how long ago did you move them to this new space? somtimes it just takes awail for them to get used to it. by next week she will probably be better. and so will her litter habits,

Some rabbits are uncomfortable with change. They don’t like change in routines, change in living spaces, etc…she may be feeling insecure. Can you change it back and see how she does?

Most rabbits don’t like change. You ever notice how when you startle a rabbit, they immediately dart to someplace like a seeking missile? It’s because they have the whole place mapped out in their heads. Even blind bunnies, after learning the room, can run and binky without running into anything.

Change the layout and they suddenly don’t have that anymore. And since yer the stupid slave that changed it all, they’ll let you know about their disapproval. But like mocha says, give them some time to get the lay of the land again and it will all be just fine. Usually you should introduce them to new space with a way to get back to the old, that way they explore while knowing where they can get back to familiar land.

I agree, she’s reacting to change and perhaps separation from you?

Also, is there adequate sunlight in that room? If it’s in a closet area she may be reacting to a decrease in light.

My entire room has no sunlight there are no windows anywhere. The only time they see windows and natural light is when they have their playtime out in the house at which time you will find one of them perched on the window sill like a cat lol. She still doesn’t like it so I have made her a pathway beside the two cages that lead into her old pen in my room she seems satisfied with this setup. I think she is mad because she isn’t able to escape this area like she can her pen lol. In her pen 9 times out of 10 I would wake up with a bunny sleeping on my chest or to her ripping up a box somewhere in the room (I have several in places for the buns to play in or the ferrets to run through when they are out). But in the new setup before I changed it she only had walls and the divider so it was impossible for her to escape at night.
