  About 1.5 weeks ago, we took Dudley in to the free nail/teeth clinic in my area for the first time. They discovered he has severe malocclusion to his incisor teeth. She trimmed off probably 1.5cm of tooth, and since then he has been eating much more and seems happier! Poor little guy
  
  She told us he would need to be seen often, which I am totally fine with doing..
  
  I just wanted some advice for owners who have also dealt with malocclusion. The vet said it looked like he was born this way.
  
  1) How often will his teeth need to be trimmed? The free clinics are twice a month
  
  2) How to assist in making sure his teeth do not get out of control again (Already have unlimited hay and willow tree sticks)
  
  3) How can I check my other bunnies teeth? She was not able to make it to the clinic in November. I want to check her teeth to see if they will need to be done at the end of December as well, but she will not let me hold her properly in order for me to check. She seems to be eating a lot of hay, and her bites seem relatively even and smoothly cut, but I worry.
  
  Any advice/input would be greatly appreciated

  A lot of these answers really vary from case to case depending on the severity and the cause of the malocclusion. I think teeth trimming is recommended about every 6 weeks, although don’t quote me on that, again it does vary depending on the severity.
  
  Regular trimming is the best way to make sure it doesn’t get out of control. If his teeth are misaligned, no amount of hay or wood chews are going to prevent it getting out of control if his teeth aren’t checked and trimmed. Simply because the teeth aren’t aligning properly for the hay to wear them down while chewing. If you are lucky, sometimes a simple trim can correct the issue and with correct diet with lots of hay, the problem does not recur.
  
  I’m not very good at checking teeth, but I like to have them up on a table so that I can have my face down level with theirs. Then I put a hand on top of their butt to stop them backing away, and try to quickly pull the lips back to get a glimpse.
