Bunny breed?

Hello, I’m new to this forum and thought it would be a lovely idea as a first time rabbit owner to have somewhere to ask for advice etc.
I had purchased a bunny from a pet shop called pets at home, when asking what breed my new little rabbit was they couldn’t say, only that he was going to get bigger. For 10 weeks old I thought my rabbit was quite large and has distinctive large upright ears, large and quite rounded at the top, and I wondered if anyone could help me discover what breed my little treasure is?

Posting photos will really help, but generally speaking if a young rabbit has very large ears, they’re often going to be quite a big bunny. Flemish giant comes to mind, but being a pet store bunn, he could be any mix of breeds so photos could help.

I can’t believe that a shop so dedicated at Pets at Home, don’t know what rabbit breed they are selling, or atleast what crossbreed they are selling !!

OK so it’s not like wanting a great dane and getting a yorkshire terrier, but still !!

Flemish Giant? Maybe part Giant Chinchilla? I’m certainly not the best at rabbit breed identification unless it’s a lop or a small breed.  So I’d say others have a better guess than me. Right now I’d say it’s a Flemish Giant, though.

His name is willow! He’s a lovely natured bunny! I’m very lucky but yes his ears stretch down most of his back when pressed back!!

I’m gonna say New Zealand mix. I’m basing that on his head and body shape. He doesn’t really look like a Flemmie in the face. He’s got a white footsies, so that suggests he’s a mix.

Probably nz, the face is too short for a Flemish. One picture he has a sheen to his fur which makes me think satin or Havana also in there.

His ears do look big in the photo when he’s boinging towards the camera, but not really very long when you’re holding him… so not sure about the Flemish and I really can’t believe PaH would be selling Flemishes to the ‘general public’ (no disrespect LW! lol).

And if he (are you sure he is a HE ??!!) is a giant then they should give you a discount on stuff like food, because that really is a case of wanting a Yorkshire Terrier and getting a Great Dane to feed !! You’ll only know of course when he reaches adult size. How knowledgeable of PaH to say he is “going to get bigger” when he’s 10 weeks old !!!

If it’s a local branch then I would keep in contact with them and then speak to the manager if it is clear that little Willow is going to be a giant. It could be a potential ‘abandon bunny’ scenario if every bunny they sell outgrow their cages !!

On the upside – I’m a big bunny fan – so “Lucky you” !!!!

Okay thank you all, I just have a feeling that because most bunnys from pet stores are cross breeds that it could be a mix of all kinds and I’ll have no idea how big he’ll get! I just feel that for this size at 10 weeks, giant or not he’ll be a big rabbit!

I agree that he’s going to be a reasonable size, but he doesn’t look like a flemmie to me either. Some sort of large-ish medium mix of cute bunnies
