Bunny acting strange

Hi we came home from visiting my daughter at college and he bunny is laying flat on his belly, he’s eating and seems to be pooping but he won’t hop, when he tries he kind of falls to the side. I’m not sure if he didn’t have enough fluff in his cage and couldn’t get traction to hop and he hurt himself or it’s something else. He let me pick him up without kicking at me and he can sit up to eat but goes right back to laying flat which he never did. He won’t even jump up on his hutch. I’m concerned because this is my daughters baby and she’s had him for a year, got him at a fair. Any help would be appreciated

If a bunny falls to the side when it tries to hop, what comes to mind is e cuniculi or an ear infection. E cuniculi is a microorganism that can cause problems resembling a stroke in a human. An ear-infection can affect balance since the balance organs are located in the inner ear.

Laying flat makes me think of gas, but buns that have gas normally will refuse food. And gas wouldn’t cause a bunny to fall to the side.

Both e cuniculi and ear infections are serious conditions, so it’s best you take the bun to a vet and try to go as soon as you can.
Treatment for e cuniculi consists of Panacur (Fenbendazole, a dewormer) for 28 days, often plus Baytril (enrofloxacine, an antibiotic). There are additional meds that can be given to help with dizziness and nausea and inflammation. Treatment for an ear infection is antibiotics, commonly Baytril, and an antiinflammatory against pain and swelling (Metacam, meloxicam).

Well as quick as he seemed to get weird on me he’s back to normal. I think one of the cats may have freaked him out , added more bedding and he’s back to being crazy as ever thanks for the help!
