        A feel good article

        http://www.palmbeachpost.com/news/n…ubu/nTNMd/

(Not sure the link is not working, you’ll have to do the ol’ copy/paste)

Do any of you have ASPCA or other stickers on your doors/windows alerting firefighters of pets in the home? I have one on each door but I have to get new ones since they list 3 rabbits and 3 cats, and now I only have 2 rabbits and 2 cats. They say Dog and Cat with a little area to list the number but I added RABBITS with a marker. I think it’s a good idea to have these. Not sure if all firefighters would actually look at them in the event of a fire, but I think it’s worth having them.

Aww that’s so heart warming! We don’t have those stickers. Though I think I might invest in them! A very good idea! Thank you!

I found a free template of those online, the just says ‘Name”, “colour”, and “species” and I just added an extra couple of line to it for my million animals My biggest fear is not being able to get my animals out in the event of a fire.

Someone down the road from me just lost their cat in a house fire The teenage son ran back in to try and get her, but he ended up getting injured himself and couldn’t get to her. It was so sad, it’s nice to hear a happy version of this story.

Awww….that’s very sad, Malp. Cats are difficult to rescue in fires because they tend to hide. That’s my biggest fear too. Trying to get all my babies out.

It’s also good for every house to have an escape plan. I need to sit down with Ricky and go over one. For example, if there’ s a fire, I’ll grab the bunnies and he’ll grab the cats so we’re not just scrambling around wasting time.

The housing people give us sticker saying pet lives here.  I got 2 pictures of Cotton nailed to my front door.  They are in the plastic photo book papers.

I think it would be safer when I go away not just on the property but out of the area to put Cotton in his house just in case of fire.  I always check the stove b4 we leave.  Call me paranoid.   lol

Cotton has an extention made I put at the door of his cage so he can go out and chew something but not loose to run around. He can stretch his legs this way

BTW, today there was a squib in the PB Post that said PETA has given an award to these firefighters for this rescue.

I’ve seen those tiny oxygen masks. Very cool. I don’t think people realize we’re talking about pets that will be living a full decade. It’s no wonder to us that they were frantic to get their furbabies rescued.

My worst nightmare. Especially since we live outside the fire service area. It’ll be up to us to get the buns, cats and dogs out if the house if it burns.
Not sure how successful we’ll be. :'( Even with drills there’s the panic factor…both human and animal. And in winter we have to grab cold weather gear just to get to the nearest neighbor.

When we move it will have to be to a safer area.
