› FORUM › THE LOUNGE › Bunnies have moved-bunny room complete!
We got the house last night and put the flooring in for bunnies-and settled them in!!! …I don’t have pictures yet
-will do tonight hopefully!
Dave, my parents and I went shopping for flooring together -as in discussion with my dad who’s an engineer-he shot down some of our ideas because they wouldn’t physically work. He suggested things that wouldnt’ be up to my bunny standards (ie. I wanted waterproof-with good traction, and soft-ideally something that could go over carpet). So we went together so we could see all the options and work it out.
The poor store clerks were trying to explain you needed this underlay for tile etc. and my mom finally said-“It’s actually not going to have tile on top -it’s for a bunny room”
to which they asked if I bred and raised rabbits-to which my parents admonished them and proclaimed that I rescue them…
Talk about embarassing MOM!!! ![]()
So we finally picked out what I think is perfect! It’s a rubber floor, it’s light blue in color and is ridged for traction. We were able to lay it over the carpet so that there is still some cushion for Ruperts’ feet-and I basically have a rubber floor-completely sealed with cushion underneath!! It’s totally flush so I don’t see them chewing it (but budgeted for it if they do-we may cover it with throw rugs or pull it out all together and try something different) but none have ever chewed any type of floor, baseboard etc. (Kokanee was the ‘damage deposit destructor’
)
We made a divider with a gate out of NIC cubes and to my surprise Rupert did not try to go after Chuck and Noot (since seperating them Rupert’s decided Chuck is a stranger and to be growled at
Good thing Chuck can’t hear him
). I stayed with them until late last night but despite the change of scenary all their familiar stuff was there and they were all eating and pooping and exploring when I left!
SUCCESS!!!
Can’t wait for pics!
That’s great! You could maybe get some large 12 inch loose tiles for around the edges if they wanted a cool place to lay….
Congrats on your new house. It’s fun to plan, shop, and put it all together. Now did you go to a flooring store for rubber flooring? or like a home improvement store? Was the flooring economical, and do you have a name for it? I’m always curious about rubber flooring and want to get some, but not sure where to get it or how much it costs. The only thing I keep thinking of is rubber mats for under an office chair. I’d love some rubber tiles. Do tell….
PS yes moms are always embarrassing. I’m 38 years old and my com continues to embarrass me!
Yipes! a 4×10 sheet of rubber exercise flooring is $104!
Sorry bunnies, we’re sticking with wood and carpet.
Tarm & Ruffles-this is the stuff we bought-or looks like it at least! It’s super it has traction, durable-water proof and soft (and it’s over top of the carpet so it’s got even more padding for Rupert’s footy)

It was about five dollars a foot, but those are linear feet-so really about 5$ for three square feet-so we did the whole room (90sq/feet) and had left over for 156$ or so?
That floor looks awesome! When Hammer and Lucy bond they are moving to a roughly 5×10 (didnt measure) pen in my room. Sounds like that floor would be good to put down over my carpet in the pen.
That is a great idea for flooring- and really economical considering it was the whole room and it is protecting the carpet, padding and floorboards underneath really.
Oh, cool…can’t wait to see the photos of the bunny room!
Oh wow, that’s great and economical, esp when I would only need a 4×4 space. One last question: what type of store did you get it at? I know you’re in Canada, do they even have a Home Depot in Canada?? Duh, I used to live 20 minutes away from Canada, yet I have no clue.
how exciting!!! i def need photos k&k… what… are you too busy moving, caring for pets, running a rescue operation and working for a living or something? ![]()
Cool. Be nice to see final set-up. How wide are those grooves in the matting? I can just imagine bb’s all lined up in them – hehe.
Did the car come with the flooring?
BBM-“are you too busy moving, caring for pets, running a rescue operation and working for a living or something?
” LOL
OMG it seems like no one notices how busy I am!
Dave certainly had no sympathy
At work too-I got a new position and the guy they hired for my old one quit so I’m covering my old position trying to learn my new one and training the new employees….
As Rachel says … *le sigh* heheh
Drum roll……..
{To key up the suspense
I’ll show you what Dave did to my living room}

AND this is the man who did this to my home….(he said not to take his picture and post it for my bunny friends to make fun of…so …I am doing so
)

LOL Ok now the bunny room!!!!
Sign for liability reasons…![]()

Took a video too! s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc181/k…w%20house/
How clever! I like the storage dividing bit! Uh-oh, I saw Noot visiting Chucks lion… How is Chuck going navigating the new space?
Of to watch vid now,
Gotta ask, how long has Dave had access to this place? He has been busy!
Edit: Just watched vid. Can see Chuck is managing very well! ![]()
LOL Yup Chuck is doing awesome-seriously he’s the BRAVEST of the four
He is amazing!
Dave n’ I have had it since yesterday! We did the bunny room yesterday-which was serious business. Today ripped down walls in living/dining room and family room, new locks on front/back doors-changed door handles throughout, raked yard and pulled out one bush…we’re getting there LOL ![]()
Geez oh man! You guys waste no time! How exciting! What are you doing to the living room, just re-drywalling? Are you putting up a bun-chew proof border around the bototm 2 feet of the room? LOL!
It’s so wonderful to see Chuck out and about!
Ruffles-yup we have home depot in Canada. I got it at home hardware but I’m SURE you can find it in any store like that-it was in the section of tile underlays (those hard plastic squares) and outdoor carpets
Jers-on Chuck getting around, Dave actually made a funny but true comment-he’s goes around sort of like a Roomba…wall, change direction, wall change direction
He doesn’t hit them hard though-he goes slow with his head low, he’s really got it figured out!
Beka-the walls were like this board stuff-really ugly-so all walls are coming down and getting drywalled. A wall is coming out from the kitchen area so that it’s more open concept too, some flooring etc. To tell you the truth I’m not even sure-Dave has it all planned out and I’m just letting him do his own thing
My bunny room is done LOL
I have no idea why but we don’t need the
a bun-chew proof border around the bototm 2 feet of the room
besides one small chew in one couch from Rupert and wires when dave didn’t properly cover them-none of them have ever wrecked anything? I must have really lucked out! Kokanee was the damager-bunny proofing was not possible and was merely a game to her-simply making her ‘job’ of wreaking havoc all the more fun ![]()
Like I said before, I’d never know Chuck was blind if you didn’t tell me so.
Wow, that’s some set up! I couldn’t figure it out in the middle at first, then realized you’re storing all supplies in divider cubes. Very clever.
Was that first fuzzy thing in the long thing against the wall actually Kahlua? I can see Noot in your still pix. Chuck looks fantastic. Roomba is absolutely right. (Dave is cute, too.)
Now when people visit, they’ll REALLY think your crazy since your bunnies have their own bedroom! Hehehe ![]()
So cool, K&K! Are they going to get to run around the finished house, too? Kahlua cracks me up, btw!

I’ll bet he has really adjusted to using his whiskers to judge when he’s about to bump something. Combine that slow and steady with the possibility that he can tell some light and shadow from his remaining eye, and he’s getting along pretty well. He just needed somebun to believe in him!

*cough!* Yes Lesley… that is CRAZY! You are a crazy bunny lady…
Not me, just yooooou….
And Lightchick… OF COURSE the bunnies will run around the finished house. Maybe not at first…
Dave says:
“No they have their own room to play in…”
“Okay, just the hallway to explore…”
“You’re right, it is annoying having to walk over the gate.”
“Fine, but only when we’re awake/home.”
“There better not be poop on the couch, that’s all I’ve got to say!”
“Oh look. Poop. On the couch.” ![]()
Beka the Soothsayer – LOL!!!
LOLOLOL Yes Dave is already trying the ‘they have their own room’ I’m being very firm that I *never* said they would stay in their room, just that we had to get three bedrooms so they had room for all their stuff!!
Pam-yup that little dark thing is Kahlua heheh
I brought my camera this weekend to the new house-and FORGOT my memory card
Which is bad…I built a window seat/bunny skywalk for Rupert and Kahlua to go up and enjoy the window sill -it’s completely enclosed so they can’t hop into Chuck/Noot territory and they are enjoying it!! I blew Rupert’s mind by going through to the backyard and talking to him from the window heheh
And everyone who was over helping drywall this weekend (we pulled out a wall to make a big open concept kitchen/dining/living room) brought their doggies-so everybun met two chihuahua’s (Daves’ parents dogs) Mandy (my parents dog) and two puppies (Dave’s friends dogs)-they did awesome. Kahlua does not seem to like dogs-she stomped at them. Rupert touched noses with all the dogs and was totally calm. Chuck and Noot didn’t really meet them, since we’d have to have moved the gate-but Noot saw them and he was interested and not scared. So I’m very excited and feeling very confident about brining our dog home! We weren’t going to get him until May 2 but we are going to try for this Sunday!!
Neither of us can wait and the major reno’s will be done!
