Hello all, I usually browse and I was planning to introduce myself in happier circumstances but I have a bit of a situation. I apologize in advance for making a new thread as I think my rabbit has similar issues to ChibbysMom but it’s a little different and I’m a bit freaked out.
I’m located in Bakersfield, CA and after calling 4 different 24/hr emergency vet locations from here and LA I can’t find any “exotic” vets on duty and just a general uncaring attitude concerning my bun including the “no ma’am all of our doctors treat exotics” when I tried to explain I needed a rabbit-savvy one.
-Anyway, my girl Mei was fine this morning but after we got home she started getting extremely lethargic, she generally dislikes me putting a hand near her tummy but now I can literally lift her up a bit that way and she won’t budge. She’s barely eaten a thing unless I stick it in her face and hasn’t drank much either. My spouse and I fed her(well attempted) some critical care but only two syringes worth. I also gave her a belly massage and didn’t hear or see the signs of pain or issues with her tummy other than a small, normal gurgle.
like ChibbysMom, it’s gotten warm here lately but we keep the house at 76 degrees, Mei has started a super heavy shed so I’ve been grooming her every day trying to keep it controllable but I’m worried she ingested too much? All my buns have a very healthy oxbow diet and healthy treats too. An extra odd thing to note is she’s a Silver Marten but one ear recently dropped like a lop rabbit? I heard this could be due to heat so we’re wondering if she’s overheated? We’ve kept an eye on it but there’s no sign of infection or pain in the ear and she doesn’t feel overly warm than normal in any way.
Sorry for the wall of text but any help of any kind would be very appreciated.
It’s so hard to reach good vets around here even during the day and I worry it’ll be too late before I can contact one. Going to try to reach someone after work tomorrow if possible.
