We just got our Christmas tree yesterday. It is a chemical free Frazier fur. I read on another post that rabbits can safely nibble a bit on pine. I had originally thought it was off limits like cedar. Now I am wondering if anyone knows how much is safe? Our rabbits are so excited about this tree and keep cleaning up the scrap needles that fall. While they are not setting down for a full meal or going after the branches, I feel like they are nibbling quite a bit. Aside from not letting them get too much too soon, are there any risks here?

Thor’s been chewing on spare needles for the past week with no ill effects Our tree is behind a gate to prevent her destroying ornaments and chewing the light wire, but she’s been nibbling on branches she can reach through the gate and fallen needles. I think as long as it’s not a whole meal it is safe for them to nibble away!

Yes, untreated pine and spruce needles are ok. Ornaments are much worse. The lights would be low voltage so the buns won’t get hurt if they chew the cables, but it’s inconvenient for you, of course.

They must be so cute in their Christmas excitement!

A lot of bunny peeps fence off their trees, both real and fake. Mine is fake but I’m worried about my boys chewing the wires from the lights. Just to give you an idea of a very simple bunny guard.
