My bunny Hamilton is in desperate need of spaying, as she has the very common problem of peeing/pooping on my bed to mark her territory. Most of the time, there is the inevitable couple of bunny pellets on the bed when I enter my room, to try and show me whose bed it REALLY is. I just walked into this sight as usual, however, between the scattered poop there was this brownish spot? It looks much too small to be a spot of off-colored urine but I can’t tell where blood would have been coming from? There’s none on her actual poop or anywhere else that I can find. Any ideas as to what it may be?

It doesn’t really look like blood to me. You can test if it’s blood by dripping hydrogen peroxide on it, if it foams a lot, it’s blood.

Bunny urine can come in many colors, and it often changes in color when exposed to air. Colors from clear to yellow to orange, red and brown are all within the normal range. The color comes from plant-pigments. Thick, gravel-like brown/grey pee is not normal, but your stain has none of those characteristics.

How old is your bunny? Uterine problems are common in unspayed does, but as a rule not until the bun is an adult.

Is she straining to pee, do you see pee-dribble in many places? I’m thinking of the possibility of a UTI.

If she’s eating, drinking and pooping well and acting her normal self (albeit crazy because she is hormonal) this seems to me like a pee stain.

Thanks so much for the response! We ended up taking her to the vet and they didn’t find anything wrong with her urine or any sources of blood. They thing she might have just snagged a nail while playing and it bled just a little bit. She’s been just fine ever since!

I see this a bit and I call it “cecal juice”.  I know, gross.

I just deleted a pic off my phone that looked just like yours. I’d put fresh bed sheets on and my single rabbit managed to stain the end within a day. He normally sits on a fleece at the end of my bed, but everynow and then the sheets get a spot.

So it could be that or a bit of dark pee. Check her underside routinely for aby urine staining.
