Brining bunny up to bed

I have two quick question.

My first question is regarding my bunnies blanket/bed, he loves sleeping in it and never poops or pees in it anymore (has been litter trained for almost a week now, hopefully that means he has permanently learned? haha) Anyway, I was wondering what would happen if washed his blanket? would he pee in it again to make it ‘his own’?

Also sometimes I’m on my bed and he looks up to see me and i feel bad for not sitting on the floor with him all the time so can i bring him up on my bed? what are the chances he will pee on it? he hasn’t peed outside of his cage in about a week now but idk if he is ready to come on the bed, (he isn’t big enough to get up yet on his own but i would love it if he eventually did cuddle with me in bed)

any ideas?

Bunnies do like to pee on soft things, and since your bed smells like you, that’s an added bonus for him wanting to mark it (especially if he isn’t neutered). You can try taking him up there, maybe even put some extra thick towels down, but I’m betting he’s going to pee.

If he’s litter trained, I think you could bring him up and see. If he pees on it..well..dont bring him up again ^^;; (You said right now he’s not old enough to climb up on his own) My rabbit loves hopping and binkying on soft surface like bed or sofa..and its a delight to see her that happy She’s sometimes on the bed with me, cuddling.

He might poop or pee when he reaches the stage where his hormones start bothering him. That will after 3 or 4 months of age. He’ll poop or pee on the bed as a way of territorial marking. If he is already past that age and yet have not peed or pooped, then I dont think he intends to ever do that on the bed.

There was this time when Moshu did really poop and pee on bed and sofa.. but that just sort of vanished..magically. O_o She doesnt do it anymore. As JackRabbit said, spread towels or some extra bed sheet on the bed, just in case…

haha ok thanks! so the extra territorial phase is at around 3 or 4 months BEFORE he is neutered and then it gets better after that?

It should get better after neutered, but some bunnies still like to pee on things with heavy scents of their humans. I will warn you, when a bunny pees on your bed, it seems like they pee alot!

ya he peed on my bed on the first day i got him haha i had put a blanket under him but since its my first time having a bunny i had no idea how thick they’re pee was…went right through the extra ‘protection’ blanket
Im curious though, if they like to pee on what smells like their humans, why doesn’t he pee on me?

Give it time! If he starts spraying, watch out! AndHenry can tell you horror stories about Henry spraying her and hubby!

HI Jimena! As mortifying as what it is to share my Henry (bunny) story with anyone (it is so gross, lol!) I’m happy to do it if it helps you out. When Henry first came home as a baby bunny and not knowing anything (GASP!), he was put on the floor with less than the basic essentials thinking we’d all work it out from there….. I didn’t know anything about neutering, toilet training, restrictions and let Henry make himself at home – he did! Our bed! He pee’d and pooped (how does a bunny poop that much???) on our bed, and SPRAYED us – including our dog’s, wall’s, furniture, he even sprayed in my cup of tea! (good thing I saw it! Told you it was gross!). The hubby and I quickly learned when Henry turned his back on us to close our mouths and grab the pillows that we were laying comfortably on seconds ago, to defend ourselves – yes he sprayed pee in our mouths – yuck!!!
Out of desperation I researched spraying bunnies and this is how I came across BB and found out having him neutered could make the difference. I spoke to my doggy vet who referred me to an exotics vet and I booked him in that day! WOO-HOO!
While he was in surgery I scrubbed my room and the dog’s, I didn’t have the time or chance to worry about him once, lol! I kept him off the bed for a few weeks (by the way, Henry could jump up on the bed as a 9 week old baby bunny – doh!). Then we let him up again, and I have had no problems since – not even poop! WOW!

My advice to anyone based on my experience is to not let their bunny on anything like a sofa or bed (wish I knew!!!) till you have them spayed (girl) or neutered (boy). It’s not worth the grief if your bunny is anything like Henry or turns into a Henry before you know it. I am telling you now, once your bunny is allowed something – they think they OWN it and it’s impossible to backtrack. I once put a board up at my bedroom doorway to stop Henry from coming in. When he realised he couldn’t jump it, he climbed it (HUH?). And it’s distressing! hearing him trying to get in when he couldn’t quite make it. So sucker me, I let him in only to get pee’d on!

You shouldn’t have long to go, wait it out, get him neutered, wait a few weeks then enjoy your bunny in bed! (Until he wakes you doing zoomies on your head at 4am) SIGH……
But it’s better than washing your bedding every day!!! LOL!

And PS Avantika – you do know how jealous I am??? So not fair! he he he he!

My Bam peed on the sofa until he was neutered. But I had to block the sofa until he forgot about it. If your bunny develops the habit of using your bed as a toilet (and they do like to pee on soft things that smell of their favorite human), it’s not a given that he stopped when he’s neutered. So I’d say wait until he’s neutered. I had my Yohio neutered before he was let on my bed, and he’s never peed on it He spends quite a lot of time in it, he lounges there during the day and sleeps in it every night.
