  So I initially adopted Pepper from a rabbit rescue an hour away from me in January. She was spayed beginning of October 2016. I took her to the vet in mid January 2017. The vet found that her staples are still in!! We just brushed it off that the rescue probably forgot to take her in to take them out.
  
  Fast forward. I took her to another rabbit rescue yesterday for bonding boot camp. This rescue noticed that her behavior is.. VERY on edge and asked if she was spayed. I shared the story with them so the rescue educator picked her up to feel her belly, we both can feel stitches under her skin. Apparently this is very odd because most vet uses dissolvable stitches for anything under the skin as the stitches can’t be removed. She suggested that I take her to a vet to see if maybe something went wrong with her spay and they didn’t remove everything like they’re supposed to.
  
  Do you guys know if an ultrasound would show if she has a leftover ovary etc? I don’t want to open her back up on a hunch! Are botched spays even that common? I adopted her from a very reputable rescue and find this very hard to accept.

  That’s awful!!! Lucky she hasn’t had any problems because of this.
  
  Not sure about the ultrasound. I would ask a vet.

  An ultrasound would show if she had any ovaries etc left, but it wouldnt show you left over stitches, I cant think of anything that would unless they are the special type used in some human surgeries that are designed to show up on an xray

  I talked to her vet (who didn’t perform the surgery), he said it’s pretty normal for old-fashioned vets to use nonabsorbable stitches for subcutaneous sutures. And he doesn’t believe that her behavior indicates that she wasn’t spayed correctly, so I probably shouldn’t waste $200 taking her in for an ultrasound (I have spent a lot of money at the vet lately so he was mindful of that). He said if I INSIST he can do either an ultrasound or bloodworks to see if she still has elevated hormones.
  
  I’m gonna call the rescue I adopted her from to ask them if the sutures are something they have seen and also for her behaviors before spaying.
