Hello everyone!! My rabbit is 1.5 years old and is currently not neutered. I plan on getting him neutered soon and was thinking about getting him a friend. If he isn’t getting neutered until recently, will this stop him from being able to bond with another rabbit? He isn’t showing un-neutered bunny behaviors other than circling every now and then. He is really sweet with our cat he grew up with (but he can be a little mean with our cats he doesn’t know as well). Does anyone have any experience with this?

I will take as many pics of Oliver as I can get! <3

He will need to be neutered before bonding, even though he isn’t acting super hormonal now. Unneutered buns will mount relentlessly and it prevents a stable bond from forming, even when they other bun is spayed/neutered. Plus you will likely see a HUGE increase in marking and spraying etc.

The ideal timing would be get him neutered, and then wait about 3 weeks to introduce him to another bun, because it takes some time for their hormones to fully settle. You could have him living side by side to the new bun while he is in that time period though.

If you want to do bunny speed dating at a rescue (which I recommend if you can!), then he will need to be neutered before that as well. Around that 3 week post-neuter mark is also a good time to start speed dating.

I was already planning on getting him neutered!:) I just wanted to know if it would cause any issues during bonding since he’s getting neutered later in life!

I know your question was already answered but I just wanted to add that you will have to wait a month after he gets neutered to start bonding.
