Bloody Urine?

I found these red spots in Cinnabun’s cage. I’m just confirming it’s blood because when I looked it up I read that their urine can be a orangey/red color and I don’t want to take her to the vet over nothing. She’s not spayed and she’s almost 2 years old. When we went to the vet to get her checked out before her spaying surgery, the vet did a blood test and found that she had elevated kidney levels. Then our vet suggested we do a fecal test to see if she had an infection, and the test came back negative. We haven’t called the vet yet to discuss what to do next. I don’t know if that’s relevant but I typed it anyways in case it was.

Also, here’s a few pics of Cinna herself because I never posted them. Oops The ‘cage’ that she’s in in the pictures was the cage her old owners kept her in. Now she’s living in two dog crates connected and has a lot more room.

It’s a bit difficult to tell with that crazy pattern :~) but it does just look like urine to me…do you have just a white blanket that you can put down though to get a better look?

When was that blood test done by the way? Have you had her retested to check the kidney levels?

The way to tell if it’s blood or not is to put some hyrogenperoxide on it. It is blood, the peroxide will have a chemical reaction to the blood. It will foam and get warm, as the color is bleached out. If it is plain urine, there will be no chemical reaction.

Ah, I meant liver, not kidney. It was tested a week ago. We haven’t retested yet.

 I’ll have to check and see if I have a white blanket.

No, she wasn’t the bunny that ate a twist tie. Thanks for that info, I’ll check it with the hydrogen peroxide once her other fleece bedding dries and I can change the fleece.

I just wanted to give a little update on Cinna. She had her blood retested and her liver numbers are normal! I believe the elevated numbers were due to her being kept on cedar/pine shavings in her previous home…but now she’s healthy, and I guess that’s all that matters.

She is scheduled to get spayed on April 6th, when my school is on break and I’ll be able to stay home and monitor her better. (:

Also, it wasn’t bloody pee. She has normal looking pee, no problems at all.
