I regularly buy 2nd cut Timothy Hay, but when I adopted Holiday & Fiesta some Alfalfa hay was sent along with them.

I’ve seen blended hay being offered for sale, and I’m curious as to what is the best for rabbit overall, and why. My rabbits range in age from 6yrs to 3 months so I’m hoping to make the best choice for them and my pocketbook.

        Any suggestions?

I don’t remember for sure but Holiday and Fiesta are young, are they only three months old? I know bunnies get alfalfa until a  year old but other then that, I don’t know much about what’s better so I’m curious what people will answer.

Well for the babies I would definitely continue with the alfalfa – it would be more of a treat hay for the older buns though.

I know BinkyBunny offers some blends on her store that are very nice and one does include alfalfa I believe.

I know KMS Hayloft has an alfalfa/bluegrass blend too – they have very nice hay too.

I really like the binky blend too – my bunnies think it’s fantastic.

Yes – until they’re around 7 months old alfalfa is the way to go. For a bunny older than 7 months – grass hays – like timothy, oat, orchard grass and bunny brome are good choice. Alfalfa can be used as a treat for adults in small quantities.

I think blends are probably the best as bunnies seem to like choice! I usually buy a big thing of orchard grass and a medium thing of timothy and a small thing of alfalfa and mix it all together.
