        I know press-press-clip

New bunny as of Monday, his nails are very long and today was going to be his first clip.

I didn’t even get the clippers to his paw. The simple act of trying to pick him up he has broken a toenail.

I was able to use a steptic pencil, I think we have stopped the bleeding.

Do I clip the rest of the nails? Do I bathe that foot? What’s my next step?

FYI: his first checkup with my rabbit savvy vet is Friday.

I would wait and ask the vet to help you with it. That’s my plan for my new girl. She really hates to be picked up.

            Wow!
            Fast reply!

I’m having to upset him, Hector, a little bit.

He’s my 3rd bunny, and he’s the smallest, but I’m not loving how little he is eating. I’ve given 10ml or less of critical care yesterday just to help him out. It really simulated his desire to eat. An hour later he was eating orchard grass and some pellets but hadn’t eaten much prior.

He doesn’t reliably eat much and I’m worried that if I have to feed him critical care again he’s going to break another nail.

I’ve laid a buffet at his feet: orchard grass, botanical hay, oat hay, blueberry, a bit of grape, Apple, Apple branch, strawberry, pear, romaine lettuce, dandelion greens, the pellet from the humane society, the martins little friends pellets we serve, Apple sauce in his water, pineapple juice in water, regular water bowl and we purchased a water bottle incase he had never used a bowl. He ignores most of it and/or doesn’t finish and/or takes him awhile.

If I’m having to catch and burrito him to critical care (which he won’t eat willingly) I’m afraid of more broken nails.

I’m running low on ideas :S Help?

So he doesn’t eat much? Or at all? Is he feeling scared, I wonder. You know, being in a new environment can be scary.

He doesn’t eat much and often goes stretches of time I would consider unusual without eating.

                This is difficult to describe.

He will eat: Our Martin Timothy hay pellets, Apple bits, orchard grass, strawberry.
The lettuce could sit for 10 hours without being touched. 3 tiny Apple slices; will eat 1 and leave 2 for the day. Pellets could be passed up for hours and suddenly be snacked on. The little strawberry chunk had a bite out of it and stayed that way for the evening before it disappeared.

Hector HAS used the water bowl now and has used the water bottle once that we’ve seen. Not swayed by pineapple or apple juice added to his water.

He is so chill. He binky’d 8-10 times on our 3rd night *but* the next day our building did the seasonal fire drill and Hector has become a bit of a shy boy again since.

He allows kisses and seeks love before food.

Aww, poor thing. I could just be stress then. I wouldn’t worry too much about the veggies. Some bunnies are not huge veggie eaters anyway. If I give my boys too much, they will just leave whatever they didn’t want sitting there.

                    Thanks Guys,
He still isn’t eating or outputting as much as I would like but he is a happy little guy.
I’ll try to mellow a bit
