Today I woke up and gizmo had blood in his cage, I checked him over and he is bleeding from his man part? My mom is currently at work and is going to take a look at him when she gets home to see if he needs to go to the vet but I am positive he need to go ASAP. He is grinding his teeth and idk if it’s because he’s happy or in pain I was petting him and he was grinding his teeth but he was also grinding them when he was sitting it the cage and when he flopped down on his back to take a nap. I want to know if there is anything I can do for him until my mom gets home. I forgot to mention I switched him to his old cage and put down towels instead of bedding and on the towel is a drop of blood about the size of a quarter (idk if the blood expanded in the towel or if it was that big of a drop) he ate an apple about two hours ago (apples are his favorite) should I give him some water and pellets? Or take away the water and pellets?

He needs to be seen by a vet. Grinding is not good and if it was blood coming out of him he def needs a checkup. Do take note that rabbit’s pee can be naturally dark orange/reddish, especially if they have recently eaten red or orange foods.

Why would you want to take away his food and water? Move his water closer to him, so that he can easily reach it, same goes for his hay. Is he eating or is he refusing/not interested in food? Has he pooped? Is he looking uncomfortable?

He’s eating, and he’s acting normal. I haven’t seen any poops.

              Has he been neutered?

If he’s bleeding, then I highly doubt the grinding is happy grinding. I’m with Muchelle, why would you take away his food and water?? He blatantly needs a vet.

You could try and rinse his man parts with saline or plain water. That will help you get a better look. To distinguish between blood and red pee you can drip peroxide on the spot. If it’s blood, it will foam (a lot). If it’s just red pee it won’t foam.

When is your mum due back?

Taking away food and water is what you do with a dog (or human) that you suspect will need to be put under for some medical procedure. It’s not necessary with rabbits. They are physically incapable of vomiting, so they don’t need to have an empty stomach for surgical procedures.

How old is he? Young rabbits often teeth grind spontaneously. Was it the same type of teeth grinding as when he flopped on his side? Painful teeth grinding tend to be louder and choppier. The bun often sits hunched up and looks uncomfortable.
