Bubba bun (male) was at the vet on Monday, the x ray indicated a bladder stone blockage. The vet was able to remove the stone by putting him under and removing it thru his penis.   He has been prescribed an antibiotic and pain meds.  I was able to pick him up yesterday after work.  His behavior prior to the removal of the bladder stone; he was haunched over, very strong urine, wouldn’t eat or drink very little poops.  After the removal; he lays down with his legs stretched out, he isn’t eating or drinking much, he has used his liter pan and he has poops (not a lot).  When his was under anesthetic for being neutered it seemed to take him three days to get it out of his system.    Would anyone happen to know what I should expect from here?

I don’t know what your particular bun will do, of course, but seems like you’d want to be sure he’s drinking to flush out his system if there is other grit. Did they give any sub-Q fluids? I would think that’s a priority, though I’m going by my experience w/ cats.
You might want to try watering down some apple juice or other fruit juice to see if that encourages him to drink. Offer him whatever goodies you can get him to eat. Don’t worry about calories. Don’t hesitate to check back with the vet. They surprise me with the different things they think of. The receptionist may not have given you all the info you need, either

There was no mention of sub Q fluids. I will stop at the store for juice. He ate little bit of his letucce this morning before I left for work. From what I have read the pain med he is on is strong. He was laying arond this morning but I kept on checking on him. He was probally saying…. I am so glad you are going to work. I just want to rest. I stopped at the store this morning and picked up some baby food. I will mix his meds with that and give it to him.

Ha Ha after all that you’ll probably come home and he’ll be fine and you’ll be mad I suggested juice. It’s hard to watch them struggling, though, isn’t it? Just be sure you water it down; I think 50/50…gotta look that up again, but I’m pretty sure that’s what I did for mine in the summer when it got really hot. I’d be interested to know how the baby food works out for his meds in case I need to do that. I’ve always just had liquid meds and fought them to administer

He definitely wants you to go to work so he can lay there and rest.
This was surgery, and like us, it takes a few days to recover. Plus pain meds may make him groggy, followed by some discomfort after it wears off, so he is going to not be himself for 24 hours or more at least.

I’m a big believer in calling my vet after anything to get questions answered. I also found that a quick email to the vet with a question often can be answered within hours by vet, or assistant, easily and in writing (easy to remember). So you can give your vet an update on his behavior, and ask what to do (like give juice, or Sub Q) now. But leaving a voicemail message is fine, too. Usually a vet likes to know progress, and guidance on post-operative behavior and what to do next is part of their service.

Baby food works great when giving buns meds. Oreo. his mom needed meds and I mixed it with apple sauce and other baby foods. I also have a bullet I turned a piece of lettuce, and a pill to a liquid, sucked it up with the dropper and she took the meds like a champ. I spoke to my daughter and she gave him his meds this morning with the apple sauce.

As for the vet, I will be calling him around noon, we had an ice storm. On his instructions and verbal he requested that a call be made to his office to let him know how Bubba is doing. His Vet is awesome.

I called the vet this morning and Bubba has a follow up on Saturday. He said that it was fine to water down apple juice and give it to him. Anything that he likes give it to him. He also indicated that the pain meds could curb his eating habits. He said that I could give a half of a pain pill tomorrow. This evening there has been an improvement from last night. He ate some of his letucce and drank a little bit. Tonight is the first night that he went upstairs since saturday evening.

Question I am hoping some one can answer. He messed him self at the vets on Monday and he has a odor on his bottom from the urine being so strong… is there anything I can do to clean his fur around that area? I wouldn’t do this right away because I think he has been traumatized enough for the past several days.

                      Hello All

I just wanted to let you know that my little boy is doing great. I down graded is pain pills to 1/2 of a tablet (doc agreed) the pain meds were to strong. He wouldn’t eat and he kept falling over and he would pee where ever he was. The 1/2 has made a huge difference, he is eating his letucce, eats some of his pellets (he really doesn’t like the pellets her prefers his letucce) he is peeing in his liter pan and his poops are getting bigger. He goes to the vet today for his after surgery check up. I am so excited that my lil guy is doing great.
