› FORUM › DIET & CARE › Bindi- Vet for possible Abscess
This morning Bindi has a green mouth from eating his veggies, which happens sometimes because he’s a little piggy, so I took a Kleenex to wipe his chin. I noticed a little pea-sized lump that was pretty bright red. There is a little scab near it. I figure it’s an abscess. Thankfully, my vet was able to see him this afternoon. She did a biopsy and sent the cells to the lab. She figures it’s an abscess but she wants to make sure it’s not a cyst.
Bindi has only had 1 abscess before. An oral abscess at the back of his mouth.
Anyone have experience with abscesses under the chin? It’s like right under his bottom lip.
Poor guy. She had to sedate him. That was 4 hours ago and he’s still all groggy and not willing to eat much.
I should have the results by early next week. She sent him home with Metacam and some antibiotics.
Unfortunately, we’ve had one experience with an abscess in the face/mouth… It was right on the bone of our bun Zelda’s mandible…
We went through months of unpleasantness… Culminating in us losing him…
But, if Bindi has had and recovered from an abscess before, at least you’ll know what to look for during the healing and recovery process!
*healing hugs to Bindi*
I’m sorry.
That’s very sad.
From what I felt, and the vet confirmed, the lump is not attached to anything. It’s sort of just a loose lump under the skin so it’s definitely not attached to bone or a tooth.
Hi LittlePuffyTail, I must correct my husband. Zelda had a very persistent abscess but he was getting better. It was a subsequent eye infection which his wee body couldn’t fight off because off all the stress which sent our little angel to rainbow bridge. Sounds like Bindi’s abscess is in a “fortunate” position in that it isnt attached to anything. The problem with Zelda’s was that it was near the delicate artery area so the vet couldn’t cut the whole thing out. It had to be repeatedly drained under anaesthetic which was stressful to the wee soul. From what you’ve said, sounds like Bindi’s will be quite straightforward to treat.
Best of luck to Bindi and you! Louise x

Vibes for Bindi!
Vibes for Bindi. If it is an abscess ask the vet about pen-g shots.

You’re so lucky he drools green. I know that sounds odd, but Sammy is so skittish about being touched in certain places, at certain times (never on alternate Thursdays, during a full moon, on her left rear rib, etc.) that I worry that she will have something wrong and I’ll never spot it early.
Bindi is our great little man, and he will be fine. Of course.
Sending good vibes to the little white teddy bear! Keep us updated.
Feel better Bindi! <3
Thank you everyone. He is feeling back to normal now. The lump looks bigger and more swollen but the vet said not to be alarmed if it was like that for a few days since she really had to poke at it to get some cells out.
“”Bindi, Bindi, He’s our Man!
If he can’t do it, no Bun can!”.
That is his song!
Just checked Bindi’s lump last night, a difficult job, he hates having under his chin poked at, but good news, it’s shrunken quite a bit!
Hopefully will hear test results today or tomorrow.
Great news – more vibes for Bindi.
Thats great!

So Mr. Loo went to the vet for a follow up apt. this morning. The lump has pretty much gone away, just a little remainder and a little scab left. Was hard to grasp what the vet was talking about but the results from the lab showed it was not an infection, not an abscess. It was the result of a trauma to the area or a spontaneous growth. There are abnormal basal (?) cells. Not cancerous cells, just abnormal. Basically, the vet said she is 99% sure it was just a 1 time occurence but to keep an eye on the area and if it comes back, she will remove it, just in case. So, I was kind of shocked and surprised but my vet told me not to worry. There is a just a tiny thickening of the skin left in that area and I will make sure to monitor it with his weekly body check.
Oh, Bindi. Always having weird problems. But I love you anyways, my little bear lamb! ![]()
Sorry LPT, I’m just catching up on this. I’m glad to hear Bindi is on the mend.
This sounds like something that has happened to Mimzy recently (again!) in that he had some ‘irregular’ cells in a node on his toes, front feet. Not quite sure how he got them, vet supposed it was injury by a hayseed or some such and it blew up all red and sore. Bled a little too before I found it. (his wee feet are so foofy)
At any rate, a few rounds of baytril and he was better. I think it may just be some of the perils of an aging bun.
We keep an eye on them as they tend to come back. I’ve recently found he is allergic to oat hay (go figure!) and I can’t give it to him at all now. Weepy eyes, sore feet, bad GI tract stuff…the works. So well just stick with timothy and hope for the best.
Bindi Loo…give your mama a break! No more vet visits for awhile, you hear? (wags a finger)
I am just catching this now too! So glad Bindi is better! Yay!
Good to hear it!
Bindi the bear-lamb! I’m so glad he’s ok!
