Okay so Nimmy got neutered on April 30, after that he started all kinds of new behaviors. He would dig half the litter out of his litter box, eat some litter. He was also seriously trying to eat my carpet and had a bit of an attitude. All new behaviors and they continued up until last week. Oh and I should mention that he was treated for an ear infection the same day he got neutered.

Well last week he got another ear infection, it’s been almost a week now and ALL of the digging, eating litter and chewing on carpet has completely stopped (hopefully it won’t come back). It seems like his ear isn’t bothering him anymore and I was wondering if maybe that had something to do with his bad behavior. Like, if he was acting out because he was in pain, like a teething baby?

Nimmy is a pretty dramatic bun, if I suddenly stop petting him he’ll turn his butt towards me then look back like “I didn’t want you to pet me anyway” He’s also pretty quick to grunt at me if he doesn’t get what he wants (but he doesn’t hold grudges). So what do you guys think?? Will the bad behavior come back? Was he just being a dramatic cry baby??

How old is he now? It could be that he is growing up too.

For all of the “naughty” behaviors, it sounds like it could have been hormone-related. For some bunnies, it can take up to 8 weeks post-neuter to calm down.

Nimmy is about 1 and a half years old. I was wondering if it was a coincidence that the behavior stopped when he got the ear infection or what.

Yes, I think it may very well have been a reaction to pain and discomfort. Like a way to distract himself from the pain.
