My poor little rescue angora Barney had a close call with GI stasis on Friday! Thursday night I noticed he was not himself, very quiet and not moving much. Barney has a history of tummy problems since his previous owner fed him hamster food only, no hay etc. Usually I can help him get over a bout with a tummy massage to move the gas, and sometimes some gut stimulant. This time was much worse
I have him some metaclopromide, plenty of food available and went to bed. The next morning he was still very poorly, wouldn’t move at all, hunched in his cage and he was cold and shivering.
So action stations! We went straight to the vets and I spent £70 on metaclopromide, antibiotics, pain relief, fibre plex and some critical care. My vet said if I’d left it longer I may well have lost him!
Today he is much better, begging for treats and munching everything! That night when he was first ill I stayed up for ages stroking him and singing to him, I’ve never been so glad to see the little pig munching!!!!
He’s had several of these bouts, but never ever as bad as that. I’m just glad I know him well enough to have spotted the signs straight away!
I hope everyone’s well
Love Anna, Barney and Belle xxx
