To build on my infected neuter post (sorry!) Bombur has been on the Sulfatrim a full day and doing fine with it and had a dose of CC. He’s super fussy about taking the CC. Is it alright to mash up a bit of banana with it and give it to him that way? He’s eating leafy greens just fine, and has only barely touched his hay and pellets. Is it alright to also keep feeding him greens even though he’s only 3.7 pounds? It would never be more than 2 cups or so a day.I just want him to eat and get better so it doesn’t turn into full blown GI Stasis.

Veggie feeding is more aligned with a rabbit’s age than weight. Wick is only 1lb and some change, so he’d be quite devastated to hear he’s too small to eat veggies!! If I remember correctly, your rabbits are older than 7mo or so, so it should be fine to feed a small amount of veggies daily. The delay in age is so a rabbit’s gut and gut bacteria can get strong enough to digest veggies.

My vet recommended sweet potato (I think) if Wick was fussy with CC. He didn’t end up needing it because he loves it so darn much though. I don’t see why a small, small, grinding of banana would hurt— just always be on the look out for too much sugar from the fruit. Do you have the apple & banana critical care? That’s the flavor I had and it was very fragrant of sweet fruits.

As for the hay, it sounds a bit logical that Bombur wouldn’t want hay at the moment. It’s not as tasty as veggies, and it’s a lot more work to eat hay. Keep presenting fresh out of the bag hay if he rejects some for a day; that way, when he’s feeling it, he won’t reject the hay for being old and sitting-out for a long time.

As long as it’s things he’s had before, it should be fine
You just don’t want to add stress to his system by introducing something completely new.

A bit of banana should be fine. Boiled sweet potato or mashed plain pumpkin would also do, if he likes those tastes.

I think veggies can be really important for a poorly bun.
