I have a jersey wooly who is about 7 years old and I have recently noticed some balds spots on his shoulders. I originally thought it was mites but his skin is pink and doesn’t look irritated. He is eating, drinking, and going to the bathroom normally. I plan on calling the vet but in the meantime, I was wondering what it could be???!

Sometimes buns get bald spots during heavy molts, it can be completely normal. Could you post a picture?

Can you post a picture? Are the patches symmetrical on either side of the body?

Sorry, I can’t post a picture now. But yes they are symmetrical on both sides.

Possibly, he was just neutered during the Summer and he does live next to a female rabbit. Looking at the link it looks pretty similar. Is there treatment for this?

Also, he recently went through a heavy molt. But all his fur (except the bald spots) is back.

My Bam got two bald spots, symmetrical, during his (unusually heavy and very long-lasting) summer shed. First there was only one spot, and then there was another one, slightly smaller but in the exact same spot but on the other side. It took a long time for it to grow back but it has grown back completely now. Here’s a picture of the first spot that appeared. It doesn’t look nice at all on the pic, but the skin was perfectly smooth and soft and lovely irl. No trace of any irritation and he didn’t seem the least bit bothered.

Hmm… how long have the bald spots failed to fill in so far? Like Bam said, it could be the result of a crazy molt. If it hasn’t been a really long time, it would probably be worth waiting a bit.

If the fur still doesn’t grow back, then it would probably be a good idea to have it checked out. If it is a hormone problem, then treatment would depend on the cause. For some issues, there is no cure. But you said he was neutered already… and the article suggests neutering as a “cure”.

Another thought I had was stress. My Wooly will pull fur when he is stressed. However, when he does it, it’s pretty random as far as location goes. He also humps when he’s stressed.
